Some reports say he might never race again, after the Canadian accident and now this accident, his injuries might never heal. Only time will tell, but I wish him all the best, he was a very good driver.

Wow big accident, surprised his team allow him to rally because of these sort of risks. Hope he recovers soon.

Earlier reports said he may lose his arm !! Apparently he was on the public road going from one stage to the next and didn't have his safety harness on properly

Also talks of crash barrier penetrating the car.

Being half Polish, I am a massive fan of Kubica and have supported him from the start of his F1 career. I was really sad to hear the news. I hope to god that he gets better and can race again... he was the fastest in pre season testing too!

I haven't heard the thing about the harness but I have heard that the barrier he hit intruded into the car and caused the damage to him.

I have to say though, despite the obvious dangers, it is so good to see a driver these days that does racing outside of F1. Back in the old days the drivers used to race in as many championships or unclassified races as they could! Though it was unfortunately the death of Jim Clark...

Hope you get better Kubica! We are all thinking of you!

I did read on the F1 site that he was woken from his induced coma and could move his fingers. Not as bad like you say. Safety is good, but with the amount of high risk activities these guys like to do, there is always a chance things like this could happen. I hope he does make a comeback this year. The sport need all the excitement it can get.

The Renault boss was refreshingly open about his attitude in the press conference held once Kubica was out of surgery. Talked about how rallying was one of Kubica’s great loves and necessary for his sanity, along with how Renault ‘did not want a robot for a driver’.

I expect it will be a while before we hear exactly what is wrong. The sensationalism on Radio 2 this morning was "Kubica's hand was partly severed...". Is this true or was it for sensationalism?

I wish him the best as he's one of F1's nice guys... and a good driver too.

True, sadly. Not sensationalism at all. The specialist hand surgeon flown in to operate said to the press that they managed to save and reattach the hand and all its nerves fully but the level of movement Kubica will eventually regain cannot be predicted yet.

Unfortunately I have experience in this, even if it is only 1 finger I got cut off. I have ended up with restricted movement in my finger because as the scar heals, it attaches itself to the tendon. This restricts the tendons travel, and so restricts the movement. He might be able to move, but grip will be affected.

Have they still to operate on his broken elbow and shoulder?

Don’t know about that, I’m afraid. The last press release I got was all about the hand injuries.

I imagine the arm and leg injuries are going to be relatively simple compared the the complexity of the hand. I guess its his hand dexterity that will determine his recovery

Really gutted about this guy. Hes kept me watching F1 since he got his first drive for BMW & then kept getting podiums driving a shed. F1 will be poorer without him. :(
