Post subject:  Dyno runs?

Who has done them? I'm thinking about taking one of the cars to a day up here ( in Whitburn if anyone really really wants to go ). Does it do the car any damage? What are the benefits for me? Do I really want to know?

A friend is wondering about his 996 C4S, has anyone had theirs tested and what results did you get?

A fit car will not be damaged. But it does stress the engine. Particularly the cooling system that will be pushed to it's limit. When your doing a maximum power run but the car is standing still even the biggest fans are puny compared to cold fresh air hitting the rad' at 100+.
The advantage is you find out if your car is producing the power it had when it was new. Most people don't actually want to know this as the results are often disappointing & simply plugging a chip in is far cheaper.
Though often a skilled operator will find simple solutions to find the missing power like curing a vacuum leak you didn't know you had or cleaning the injectors. Resulting in a more powerful & economical car. Running smoother & better than you believed possible.
If your serious about your Porsche & it's maintenance then it's a must in my book. A Porsche that doesn't go is nothing more than an embarrassment.
First time on my car was dreadful. Despite it's service history it was 40 hp down on what is should have. Not anymore! :)

Hi :)

I have done several , firstly without Nitrous then with...

My best one was with 150 hp of Nitrous and it came out as 505hp and 512 ft/lbs torque...

These days with my big system they wont let me run any more :(

They say it might damage their rollers lol :)

Excellent fun to do though and if you do it with a group its more fun...

Yep, they are good fun, did one last year @ Regal in Southampton in the 993 very good, but some interesting results too, plus a total failure of a brand new 997 to even get on the rollers, broke down in the yard!! :(

How much does it cost to get your car dyno'd these days?

I guess it would cost more to get an engine dyno'd thats out the car due to mounts etc... mine wont go on most dynos!

We did it as a club event, think it was about £20-£30 per car, 2 runs, we had the place to ourselves on a Saturday morning, really good, coffee and biccies, and print outs which they laminated, good outfit Regal.

It is a good idea to go as a club because with several cars the same, it becomes clear if someone has a problem with theirs

It is costing £30 for 2/3 runs. You get a print out for each run. Sounds like fun, so I might go.

Done a few in the flash, first was 256bhp.
Grew with work to 279.9bhp :D
