Had the Dodge Caravan whilst I was in the states in Jan. Same wagon but different grill. V6 3.3 wasn't bad & gave 27.5MPG Imp which I thought was OK. It is a big old bus & we were 5 adults + luggage for 20 days & very cold -17 Deg C.
Several mates & work colleagues have the GV & all are happy & haven't had any real problems. The diesels in decent nick are like rocking 'orse poo & it took a mate 3 months to get one. The GV is 2 2 3 which isn't ideal for all.
The seats tumble & fold giving a flat floor which is good.
The only competitor is the Renault Grand Espace & the only thing Renault & reliability have in common is the both begin with R! IMHO!

With you on the Renault reliability :-)

I think if I was going to compramise the the seat layout I would go for a Grand Picasso. Could get a 18 month old one for less than £14k.

I need to put myself under pressure I think to sort. Tax and Insurance runs out on my Jeep at the end of the month, so need to pull finger out!

Paul

What about the Honda CRV These are best in class. Still like driving a transit van though.

Hi JJ,

Good thought ,... I had not looked at them so will check them out, but I think they are too small. Not sure they have third row of seats do they?
One problem I have found is a lot of the cars out there dont have full size seats in the rear which means you can't have three car seats in one row.
Even my A6 doesn't allow three car seats to sit properly in a row, and its pretty big car.

One thought I have had is checking out how big an A8 rear is. A few etc inches would make a big difference.

Regards
Paul

Just putting it out there to get shot at, but how about a Pug 307 SW. It was bigger inside than my 407 SW and was a 7 seater. Not the biggest, but reliable, 50 + mpg and ok to drive.

JJ is right about the Honda. Not to put you in a catagory or cause offence, but my dad prefered his Honda CRV over the Disco. But the Pug is cheaper to run than both.

Someone is bound to have a go at that statement for suggesting a Pug. :D

Lee.

BTW, just ordered a new Insignia this week, so the Pug is going. Vauxhall garage is 200 yards from my house. How's that for lazy.

To be honest I am considering anything and everything ... none of these excite me much to be honest, so more than happy to consider a Pug. I will look into them ....

Insignia looks nice ... big step forward over the Vectra?!

Never had a Vectra. I had an Astra years ago and it was ok. I've bought 5 Pug's in 6 years, no thanks to drunk drivers and low flying Vectras. I thought the 307 SW was good.

Stupidly ordered the Insignia without a test drive, I only sat in it in the show room. Now I'm worried about the fact it doesn't have a handbrake, only a button on the dash? How does it work? Hill assist? How does it know?

used to have a vectra estate, huge boot area, now on a 407sw, boot tiny in comparison, did have a zafira as well, back seats move back and forth which is handy, using 3rd row of seats restricts boot space tho'

I have a button for a handbrake on my A6, but its an auto so not sure what would happen if I had a manual on a hill. Assume you just press the button instaed. I like it though... no doubt the future for most cars?!

A Grand Voyager! Just couldn't find anything out there that ticks as many boxes as it does.
Hard to get excited about an MPV, but at least it has plenty of spec and plenty of space!
