Some unhappy Porsche people but a good mention for TIPEC.

This is sooooo not the first time I've read something like this.
In order to remain PC, both clubs have their merits, blah, blah, blah, of course they do!

We had more cars at a local family festival today, and it was free entry (for both Sat and Sun), programmes were extortionately priced at £1 and all we got was a Battle of Britain flypast, wingwalkers, lawnmower racing, steam trains, canal boats, oompah band, steel band, beer tent, kids club, traction engines, classic cars, wild west military re-enactment, stunt man, birds of prey + tomorrow we get battle of the bands, Yaks aerial display team, joustng show, duck herding (LOL). And to think last year we only had the Red Arrows
I think I may have forgotten something (sorry!) and all, as I said, for FREE!!!
Oh, did I mention good company?? Friendly banter, and one of ours fell sleep on the steam train which we only found out after having tannoy calls for him and checking the first aid tent (you know who you are  )

When I saw the £15 mentioned, I thought it was per car, then I found out it was per person :o

Where is the gag smiley when you want it?

To be fair I wouldn't of expected anything else on PH...
I went today and the turnout was excellent, really excellent...
I arrived at 9am and left at 4.30pm.

Traders turnout were poor, depending upon what you were after but I think we all will appreciate the difficulty in getting traders there in the first place.
It did cost me a handbag and selection of cards, so someone left happy.
Had a ride in the off-road KN belting around the field and enjoyed the displays.. Coys- well they were the usual Coys..:argue:

But lets not listen to the good stuff and all put our monaing hats on bah..blah.blah..

Gary, from what I understand it was a poor turnout Sat. & decent on Sun. So the PH comments are valid FOR Sat.
But I'm sorry £15 per head is still very steep either way.

Editted to add £10 for a programme!

True, but Saturday was about Silverstone... which again had a good/great turnout :)
Programs were £2.50, no idea where £10 has come from?? please lets not start a bullshite fact thread.

As for entry cost, fair enough that was an on the day price... prior it was £18 for the 3 days plus all the additional bits like Goodwood and the action stuff.
We all have choices on what to attend, I'd of been at Shackerstone as I was last year if this had not been on.

I've been to the two Porsche shows this year and enjoyed both of them.

Unless the £10 you mention was the one for the Coys auction brochure, which had nothing to do with the organisers... and even I thuoght was a rip off...

Yup sorry the £10 was for Coys. But the £15 a person still stands, it is very expensive.

I'm not a PCGB member so they don't need me to defend them!

But I am keen on car events, and have attended a few PCGB events in past but not the Silverstone/Cirencester event under discussion (I made plans to attend Shackerstone instead to support TIPEC's presence there and because I had a fine day there last year)

I had read plenty of previews of the PCGB show in various magazines and online prior to the weekend. I knew it was spread over 2 venues, but formed very strong impression from all the pre-publicity that Sunday was main day for Cirencester. I was actually very surprised that anyone went along on the saturday!

The £10 auction programme is the standard - annoying - charge for such affairs. They are in the end grand second hand car salesmen out to make a profit.

I agree with Jim that £15 per person is a prohibitive price for a family trip (maybe kids were free/cheaper). Apart from that it seems anyone who attended on sunday thought it money well spent. I also find PCGB's insistence on Register parking and making other Porsches park elsewhere rather tiresome, but PCGB does go for a very different atmosphere at their events compared with our typically relaxed style.

All good points...
As a register secretary I find the register parking excellent;
Being as the register is national it's really hard to get to meet everyone,
I arrived at 9am on the Sunday and parked all the 997 in the lines, thus meeting and greeting every owner.

It may be the only time I do but the parking situation does mean that we/I get that opportunity.
True not all RS were there on the day, which did reflect in certain parking patterns :? but I tried to do my bit and did eventually move onto general parking and directing of traffic.
Stood in the sunshine I did find it quite rewarding and had a good laugh with owners arriving and with the other volunteers in the field.

I don't know why people even thought Saturday at the RAC was part of the main celebrations but do conceded the club shot itself in the foot by charging full price for what I considered a setup day.

I love meeting and greeting at the gate :D

Let's keep any feedback factual and don't just copy someone else's comments hoping to fan the flames and stir the pot a bit.

I have said it before, shows are very difficult to pull together and are impossible when it comes to making everyone happy. It's a car show, meeting up with friends and looking around a car park full of cars should be enough :?

Sadly the organises have to sort out stuff to do for the ladies and keep the kids satisfied. This costs money putting the ticket price up and is pretty much a thankless task, so why bother?
Traders are difficult to encourage to come along, there are some who always support the shows and enjoy the PR benefits.

I don't like commenting directly on what PCGB do because it will always read like sour grapes. I am a member and have been since buying the Speedster, I join TIPEC later.
