Hi

nothing to do with Porsche just a warning for all......in October had a nice holiday in Africa and took my Iphone but never used it once......when I got back my bill was £4000

wrote to Vodaphone 6 times asking why and for a statement .....no statement No response they have passed to debt collectors even though I have been a good customer for 4 years.......

before leaving for my holiday I rang them and asked if there was anything I needed to do to use the phone in Africa....nothing they said......turns out I should have switched off roaming feature......nice of them to tell me!!!!!

Vodafone not a company to be trusted!!!

You had Data Roaming switched on. When you switched on the phone in Africa it will have asked "Do you wish to enable data roaming" The answer to which is no, especially outside Europe. So admittedly they should have responded but you incurred the bill!

So how does it run up a bill? What did 'data roaming' do while you were in Africa?

I only have basic phones by the way, not much of a 'gadget man'.

Edited to add - I have had the same Vodafone number for 14 or 15 years now. I've had loads of problems with them, but always get them sorted out to my advantage. One of the best things to do is to write to them rather than talk to somebody on the telephone who forgets you when you hang up.

I'm sure if you get a reasonable person you should be alright (remember that I don't know what roaming data does), if they say they don't have the authority just keep asking for their supervisor and then their supervisor and so on.

Like Tri Man, I've got an old Samdung D900 phone. Just does calls, texts, pictures and plays music. Which is fine for me.

I'm on Virgin which is a crap network. Never understood how I can have full signal bars on the phone yet 'No service' on the network. :?

In France this year I turned 'on' my data roaming to google a hotel number.... then immediately turned it back off again (which is its default setting) and that was £6.00... thats not even with Vodaphone, they're all at it...

European law now limits the bill to £50 unless you make a special agreement this stops the high bills this came into effect July 10th 2010....however does not apply to outside the EU.

Now looks like were going to court!

Sorry to hear that mate!

Phone companies are total criminals... just got a letter from 3 for a bill for £500 from 4 years ago. They broke the terms of their contract and caused me to get charged a lot of fees by my bank... I complained and they called me a liar. I cancelled all payments to them and they have been chasing me for money ever since. I just keep ignoring the letters... screw the f&%kers
