I routinely get my parts from US as I run a 928 S4 and parts are elusive here anyway.

I usually wait till I need a number of items to make the (generally modest) carriage charges worthwhile.

For many parts the Porsche OEM item is less than 25% of the UK price. Yes you have to pay VAT (recently I've noticed it's almost impossible to avoid, no matter what shipping method chosen) but you do on the UK-sourced part anyway.

But it's always worth checking the UK price as some bits cost the same here. For 928 owners the big attraction of the US is 3 big suppliers who supply nothing but 928 parts, with easily searched websites.

Having said that I've had to place 3 orders recently for small stuff (gaskets, brackets, stud fittings etc) from Sutton Coldfield OPC who have been brilliant. These sorts of items are very reasonable from Porsche, and the parts people at Sutton just take your order, use your old payment and address details then post it straight out to you, or within a few days if they have to get the parts in. They charge just for the actual postage, and sometimes don't even add this! Excellent service.

Good advice.

Don't forget that some OPC's will give us 10% discount off parts prices as well.

I've noticed that there are many more parts listed for 944's than you can get here. Except at OPC usualy at silly money. I'm not talking about gaskets or common bits. Most of Bert Gears prices are ok for that stuff. But if you need a new carpet set! £133 complete. (Thinking about htat one.) Add another 100 for shiping. But it's moulded & made to order so RHD no problem. Also bigger parts like Brake calipers. Even a new servo all at sensible money. Just got somthing like a flaming eye kit. 3 LEDs with new perspex wotsits for the dash. £20. It's a bigger market out there & theres so much stuff! Ebay here is full of rubbish. Not so in the USA! :) As said the order needs to be big enough to swallow the handling charge & extra shiping. I've yet to find an OPC that will post parts. Will try Sutton coldfield.
