Had a fantastic evening last night at the SELNK evening with the SE guys racing Scalextric. The SELNK guys even got a trophy so happy!
Took the Jaguar because of the amount of kit I was carrying & picked up Paul my ARO.
Coming back last night driving gently cos I wasn't feeling 100% & chatting, came off a slip road 10 minutes from home & was overtaken perfectly safely by a Honda ricer job. Next thing we know a lump of something is hurtling towards the car, bounces off the bonnet & goes over the roof. The noise is like a bomb going off!
Both of us say something like deary me & stop & have a look. Two bl00dy deep dings in the bonnet & various surrounding scratches. Both agree that the Jap job must have flicked a big lump of metal or similar. Also very very lucky that it didn't penetrate the windscreen as it would have been right in line with Paul's head  And that  would have been very serious.

Very frustrating as if I'd taken the Pork it has a new bonnet in the garage & the old one is scrap  However the lower car may very well have changed the lumps trajectory for the worst.

Not sure if it can be SMART repaired, the Jaguar is a special colour Blue Prisim which is a flip blue green colour, a Jaguar special for only 18 months so the bonnet will need respraying.

Final thing is left my personal laptop at the pub last night (it has been found) so cannot take pics of it, will try later.

sorry to hear of the damage to the jag, and i know its a bit of a cliche, but at least no one was injured, as you say the object was heading for pauls head which would have been nasty. as for if you had been in the 944 who knows. hope you get it repaired ok

That is annoying, though at least as you say it did not come through the windscreen! I've had several bikes up until a couple of years ago (I assume it was a bike, I think we used to call the jap bikes "rice burners" or something like that) It's unlikely that the bike's tyre kicked up a missile that large, I reckon it might have been part of the bike itself....part of the exhaust maybe, or something he was carrying. Did you find what it was that hit you?

There must be something going about.

A friend with a GT3 got sideswiped on a roundabout on Friday - luckily only damage was a scraped OSR wheel and the geo thrown out.
I nearly got the front of the GT3 taken off by a Polish van on a roundabout yesterday morning
.. and then a boy-racer with heavy window tints reverses into my Golf in a virtually empty supermarket car park last night! Luckily I was sitting in the car at the time & had the presence of mind to release the handbrake, so the bumper absorbed the impact and the car rolled back. No damage done to either vehicle.

And I'm off to Spa in an hour for 2 days of track fun - I'm now wondering if this is such a good idea

Wish me luck!

Nah the ricer was a tarted up Honda Accord. Spoiler big enough to use as a party table, exhaust big enough for a child to crawl in & very wide rims. I reckon he clipped it & flicked it off up the road. Paul & I discussed if it fell off & reckon given the size of it the car would have fallen apart TBH. I reckon it was something off a truck or similar,it was right at the chevron part of the slip so quite likely some junk that had ended up there/ I'd guess it weighed 3-5 pounds judging by the damage & noise.
