Some of you will know Mrs C and & I are off on a bit of a road trip (France (Auxerre), Switzerland (Geneva), Italy (Lake Garda), Austria (Gmund), Germany(er...Stuttgart...obviously), Belgium (Brugge - to buy a hand bag or some shoes before we get home) (Mrs C - if/when you read this I'M JOKING) We can get a hand bag in duty free on the ferry!!

We're spending a couple of days in Gmund, Austria so we will be within a few miles of Grossglockner - it seems rude not to go drive it

Any of you driven it before? My main worry would be brakes on the way down. I'm not intending to drive it fast at all - rather enjoy the area.

Any comments would be appreciated

I drove it from Gmund last August - albeit in a Fiat Panda hire car. The south end of it is pretty benign, the north end is tighter with lots of bends, but they are very close to each other, so unless you were very committed you'd be hard pushed to achieve much speed between bends. We had some snow at the side of the road at the top of the pass (tunnel) despite mid seventies temperatures.

The Porsche museum in Gmund is well worth a visit, some interesting cars in there although its dominated by early cars (356 in particular).

Yep - staying in Gmund for two nights and museum is on 'list of things to do'. Looking forward to seeing it. The autoroute from Gmund to home takes you through Stuttgart - ok, so 'close' to Stuttgart - so we will be dropping in on the new museum there as well.
