Hi Guys

Anyone have any recent experience selling number plates?

I am trying to sell my plate MPH 319 and the valuations are less than a number of years ago.
Recession to blame I guess...

No personal experience but what sort of valuations are they coming up with?

Highest as been 2500. Lowest 1750.
The plate is a 30's one with no year letters.

I believe a lot of the numberplate specialists ask silly money & just look to have the details on the website to look good.

Sounds like an ideal plate for Brett for next year's project

I would have thought plate sales are pretty stagnant at the moment and prices rock bottom unfortunately.

Nah that would be 199 MPH possibly with a < in front

I remember watching an old episode of CHIPS. Some guys who had NO2 on their car and as a next stage fitted solid fuel rockets protruding from the boot.....then things went horribly wrong...

If it had been maybe mph 200 or similar I would have bought it....but 319 is a little ambitious , even for me

Try adding solid fuel rockets!

Already got chute for mine. and in the 80`s I worked with Sammy Miller who actually ran a "rocket car" so I know precisely how dangerous that is lol, so no thanks

I actually saw Sammy Miller run at Santa Pod over an Easter Weekend 1980/81 along with funny cars and some american Top Fuelers, it was phenominal his rocket fueled car blew everyone else into the weeds and what a noise. One of those events that stick in your mind even after all the years have gone past, I remember there was a statement in the program that said "by the time you have read this sentence I will be at the end of the track" unfortunately after all the alcohol we had consumed it took us much longer to string the words together than for him to do a 1/4 mile.

I was probably on Sammy`s team for that run

What used to happen was that Vanishing Point (Sammy`s car) was flown over to the Pod in advance and kept in the Pod workshops and Sammy would fly over for each weekend to drive it.

He could not afford to fly his team over as the Pod management was notoriously mean lol.

So he asked for any spare crew chiefs to be his team and somehow I got elected with a couple of other crew members from other teams.

The very first thing we had to do was to fill 50 x 25 lts plastic containers with water to stack around his fuel (hydrogen peroxide) for safety....just in case it ignited lol....

Great days....I doubt they will ever happen again though because it was EXTREMELY dangerous and "health and safety" would never allow it thesedays

As you say too much H&S to allow it to happen nowadays, I remember walking through the pit areas while it was being re-filled it was amazing how close you could get to the cars in those days. We were there supporting a mate of mine running a 1969 muscle back Mustang with a 537cu in Cleveland motor and blower, as you said good times.
