There’s a guy driving fast around Bayreuth in a British Audi TT. Because it’s right-hand drive, the German speed cameras can’t catch his face … but they always get a good shot of the life-size Muppet he’s putting in the passenger seat!

Full story here.

Best bit? “This may be an example of the famous British sense of humour but it is still dangerous driving. … We suspect he positions the toy deliberately before accelerating past the camera.”

Just realised it’s not a TT at all … more like an A4 Estate. That’s what I get for copy/pasting from the original article. Sloppy journalism.

"Police have released a picture in the hope someone recognises them"?

And yet, the number plate is obscured and the driver is "swirled" using a picture editor - so they ONLY want to know who the muppet is?

Germany has strict Data Protection laws so that's all they're allowed to show. A firend of mine used to drive a company car & several times it was scamera'd all he needed to do was show the police that the picture showed the driver had breasts so couldn't possibly be him! Ticket in bin....

I have seen 3 cameras in North Yorkshire all on the road from Wetherby to Thorpe Arch and 2 of them point into a field

Obviously the Police have decided that there is money to be made by going after farmers speeding whilst ploughing :D :D

Good story :D but sounds like a scam to me.

Surely they would ring up Mr Plod in the UK and ask for the registration details?

No reciprical exchange of details across the EU at the mo. They can't release under the DPA or shouldn't.

I seriously doubt this story is true at all … but it is funny.

The pictures look faked to me—the muppet is too perfectly represented. Too clearly in focus, too contrasty … especially compared to the car itself.
