don’t you think magazines are just dross, even the ones about our favourite subject, pages and pages of mindless writing and pretty (staged) photos whose sole purpose is to sell advertising space and make money for the publisher! anyway i’ve had enough of them.

i'm going away for a few days next week, first and much needed break for over 12 months, the objective being to simply re-charge my (our) batteries. no tv, no pc, no phones and no alarm (ok, rumour has it that the laptop is coming along for the ride… not my idea)... i'm only taking my ipod and a book.

so, to the point… i've left it a bit late but i’m off to the bookshop tomorrow, I want a book about porsche, would be nice to include the company history, technical innovations, all the production models, race cars and homologation specials and up to date, anyone got any suggestions.

I've got so many books I personally wouldn't know which one to recommend. But there is one book which was good and it was 'Porsche, Engineeering for Exellence' by Tony Dron. Haynes published the book. It covers all the cars from 1948 to date and what they are like to drive and the history behind them. Good read.

thanks for that red924s, wasted my time at my local waterstones as they had nothing so went to the big one in brum city centre, they had loads to choose from though not the tony dron book you mention so i plumbed for two others, a huge one simply entitled porsche by rainer w.schlegelmilch and hartmut lehbrink and the porsche boxster story by paul frere, should keep me busy for a while, thanks again.

yes brian, i think there was 28 of them! i really was like a kid in a sweet shop. as you know my budget, though not finalised, is in older boxster territory so I was particularly taken with their 2001 guards red 3.2, 29000 miles and it had the look and feel (at least while stationary) of a brand new car, absolutely immaculate.

looking on the web site at their stock list I seemed to have missed the other two cheaper boxsters so I shall have to have a return visit! the thing that surprised me is that if you’ve got 25 grand to spend you really do have a large selection to choose from.
