Hi All, I am looking for a set of decent 17" wheels to fit a 1991 944 turbo. Prefer staggered 7.5J front/ 9J rear, ET50 (ish). I know that the purist will tell me that it is better on 16 inch rims - but have you tried to find decent rubber for 16 inch wheels lately? I don't want to spend more than £400 (although I may be able to go a bit more for a really nice set). I have a set of forged gullydeckels (the 928s wheels) to swap (or sell) if anyone needs them.

Seems a bit drastic to change to 17"
I'm not a purist but from 944 experiences will not change my std 16" set up.
Had 17" on a 944 Cab, I know they are not as good as Coupe for ride, but still would have been better on 16's
Heres a link to previous postings on what tyres if it helps

Thanks for the link, but I am not convinced. I know from lots of track experience that tyres really are the most important single factor in performance, and as tyre manufacturers do not seem to be making the best rubber in 16" sizes any more, I have to change. I can handle a slightly harder ride, but its the grip I can't live without.

Just for interest and future reference, based on your track experiences what make due you consider "Decent Rubber" for the grip level you require.
