Post subject:  928 S2 Iris Blue for Sale LSD and no sunroof

Hi All,

Not been on forum for so long it hurts! Big hello to everyone!!

What might hurt more is I have decided to move on my 86 C Reg 928 S2 Auto - With no sunroof and factory fitted LSD! (possible track day fun?!) 152k miles on clock with a decent chunk of history (but no service book)

Some of you will know a bit about the car as earlier in the year I was spending a fortune speeding through its restoration. However I have not touched it in months now and just feel if I cannot be motivated to finish it off I am obviously not that bothered! Work pressures and wife pressure mean I am probably just going to step out of the Porsche World for a bit as it depresses me seeing it on the drive way and the lack of drive to get her finished.

The car has been off the road since January 09 when its last MOT expired. I got it tested in August 2009 and it failed on a quite a few things that I have been working through since. (the failure sheet became my to do list!)

Since then it has had the following done to it:

Reconditioned drive shafts with NEW gaiters fitted.
New (recon) Power steering rack (with NEW bushes, Gaiters, mounts and new track rod ends)
New Brake discs, Calipers and pads ALL ROUND!
New Front hoses and (most) brake lines replaced.
New ABS sensors all round.
Steering column bearing replaced.
Full blue leather (piped white) interior from low mileage S4 fitted. (its yummy!)
New Air vents in front and doors
New Mirror Joystick
Replacement leather (original) T Shifter with all new inners.
Full service with all filters changed (including fuel filter), new spark plugs and Distributor caps (Bosch)
Replacement NEW Window switches and x1 window Motor
Lots of NEW relays fitted
Have done lots more to it as well, just forgotten!

The above has come to over £2500 since last August (but dont worry - i know that means little :-) )

Not so good. Still to do:

Biggest issue - Needs a respray - lots of cracked lacquer. Cannot emphasize this enough!
Welding on underside - have been quoted £150 to do, but was going to get done when had respray.
Fog lamp tell tale not working (not looked)
ABS light on
Rear number plate lights dropped out (including replacements with car)
One tyre close to limit
Slight oil leak on sump (nothing significant and not dripping)
Wiring loom needs adding from previous seat to drivers seat to give power (included with car)
Climate Air Con does not work. Blowers etc do and no issues with changing vents etc. (just don't blow cold!)
Dash has the crack most seem to have.

Car is standard as I planned to get it back to the factory fresh look. So 911 wheels etc have been removed and replaced with standard S2 wheels!
Also includes most of the tool kit, spare wheel, compressor and wheel cover.

AND Will throw in (if wanted):

Spare wing
Spare bonnet
Spare rear PU (Also Iris Blue)
A spare door with glass
New engine fan

Mechanically the engine and gearbox perform well with no smoke, grinds or odd noises! MOT showed CO level at 0.31% (max is 4.5%) and HC at 508 ppm (max is 1200ppm)

Also - when i glanced through the history it had a relatively recent radiator which is in good shape.

If you are interested I can send you more photos etc
I can be contacted through this site or ideally at paul.cooke@philips.com

Price? Make me an offer. Wanted club members to have first opportunity as would like her to go on to a good home. Will donate to the website as well if it sells. Fair is fair and also had a lot of good advice from many on this site! Will be back though in the future - this was my third Porsche! To add I am realistic about what it is worth, but also do consider many expensive jobs have been done on this car and with the above finished off it would make a very nice car indeed!

Many thanks
Regards
Paul

(Interior shot shows old pinstripe door cards) - these have been replaced and seats do have end caps (not showing in photos)

Added afterwards - forgot to mention - most of the side strips and front spoiler are removed as I had started prepping for respray but a nice set of strips are included and a good replacement front spoiler (as one fitted was scuffed) Thanks :-)

whoops ... its an 1985, not 86 C Reg. Losing the plot!
Also forgot to mention it has a brand new Varta Black battery.

Also - it had the rear wheel bearings done when the brakes were changed plus also has new front and rear bonnet/hatch struts.

Thanks
Paul

Hi All,

Had a few ask how much I am looking for her.

Will take £1200 for quick sale, but also thinking I might just hang on to her if I don't get any interest soon. Just means clearing the garage out to put her away and that appeals to me not!

With purchase price and what I have spent on her this car owes me nearly £4k in last year or so.

Any qustions at the weekend, please contact me through this forum if thats ok, because I will not be logging on to my work email till Monday now.

Also - away Tuesday and Wednesday.

Have a good weekend all.
Regards
Paul

Sod the wife pressure. Thats giving it away. She'd pay that for a pair of shoes & a hair do! You should keep it & finish it. She will get over it. Your not that far off. I've spent that every year on a 944 for the last 4 years!
Stick at it! :)

I know ... its tempting, in fact very tempting to keep her. In two minds really... will see if she goes in next few days. If not put her up higher on ebay and if she still don't go will put her away in the garage and wait till next summer and finish her off. Its depressing trying to work on her this time of year in the cold and wet on the drive and not enough space in the garage.

Lots of jobs to do on mine but they have to wait now for Spring. It won't get any worse if you start it occasionally. Snow here this morning. The car with snow tyres is off the road...........

For those of you have asked for outside shots, I am taking them this afternoon all being well. Snow didnt thaw yesterday, but all gone today!

Should have them on middle afternoon, and going to put her on ebay later this evening for a few days. If she don't go, will probably keep her and store till the summer.

Here are some outside shots as requested, plus the new front brakes.

Going to put her on EBay later. Will take off for a club member as putting up higher on ebay.

Thanks
Paul

Got to agree with JJ. I was put in an impossible position from the wife regarding my 944. In hindsight, I wish I had listened to what forum members were telling me at the time. I should have mothballed her temporarily and got a cheap run around. Then I could have got her fixed up in my own time. Still, you and live and learn in this life.

I will get back into Porsche ownership at some stage of my life again (probably the next 5 - 6 years when the mortgage is paid, or lottery win) but till then, it's head down, nose to the grind stone and get that mortgage paid. And it's going to be a 993 - might as well get what I really want hadn't I? Pressure is a terrible thing and makes us do very unrational things. I ended up practically giving my 944 away.

Regards,

Ben :bounce:

To be fair its less my wife moaning at me and more pressure on myself to get things done on it and not finding the time to do it. My life has changed a great deal in last year and I just don't have the time I used to have. Priorities in life change I guess. I have three cars and can't drive them all at once! I can see myself getting another 928 though ... just one that requires no work.
