Sadly the time has come for me to sell my 944 because I am just not able to use it as much as I would like (1,400 miles in the last 3 years) and I am a firm believer that cars were built to be used.

I am advertising it on the forum first as I would prefer to see it go to someone who will enjoy and appreciate it as much as I have since I purchased it in May 2011 (@ 131,000 miles).

It’s a manual 5-speed 2.5 944 Lux, first registered in February 1988, Alpine White with the typical period Burgundy interior.

It still has its original Reg Nr E62WAK. It has passed it’s MOT this week and has done 151,400 miles. I have two original Porsche keys for the car.

In fact, original is the best word for this car as it is about as original as it can be. Two obvious exceptions to this are the exhaust was replaced before I bought it with a lovely throaty stainless steel system but the tail pipe is round rather than the usual oval and it currently sits on a set of black/diamond cut cookie cutters (because I think these look the best), though the good news is I still have the original teledials (unshod) it came with and they are in great condition. It took me a long time to find this car as I wanted one as original as possible and it would now make a great starting point for someone to restore or just enjoy more than I can.

Mechanically it has wanted for nothing and I have enjoyed 9 trouble free years of ownership. The belts etc were done 2,000 miles ago by Porsche specialists GCR Central in Leicester. It has also had a full service at the same time as the MOT this week. A front caliper and brakepipe (HEL) were replaced for the MOT, it is having a new windscreen next week as there was an advisory due to a crack and I had to replace the clutch slave cylinder back in 2012 and one relay 3 years ago – other than that it’s been a totally reliable and trouble-free car to own. It has had a new battery this year. It comes with a tailored all-weather cover (this has a small hole worn by the now removed but retained mobile phone ariel mount).

Cosmetically, it is showing its age in places. The paint is wearing thin and is a bit dull in places but it still looks quite good (you don’t look at it and think ‘what a state’), there are the usual stone chips on the front, one front fog light is broken (damned surface dressing chippings). An area of paint circa 50mm by 75mm has flaked from the front spoiler and some of the black trims (wipers & rear quarterlights) have flaked in places. The stonechip protectors on the wheel arches are original and whilst intact, have discoloured very slightly over the years.

As you can probably tell already, my main concern and ability is in the mechanical side of things and I am not one for doing bodywork – but if you are, this would be a great car for you.

It has Porsche script burgundy cloth part-electric seats (no holes or rips) and black Porsche script door handles. The stereo is the original Blaupunkt radio cassette (with auto-reverse!) which has a very convenient front jack for connecting an ipod. The clock works but there is some condensation between the clock and clear screen in front of it and the window switches can be a bit stiff. The armrest is intact and contains the original cassette storage system. The dash lighting is a bit dim but all instruments work as they should and it shows good oil pressure. The dash has no cracks. The heater is either on or off, so the fiddly clip needs to be replaced, but it does keep the windscreen clear when it rains. The only blemishes inside are the gearstick gaiter and steering wheel leather are faded/worn and could do with restoring/replacing and there are 3 holes where a mobile phone cradle had once been fitted on the passenger side of the centre console. The car has not been smoked in.

The sunroof works as it should, but the roof lining has some distortion at the rear edge by the rear window. The rear seats look as if they’ve never been sat in – I know they haven’t for at least 9 years.

In the boot is the original collapsible spare, tool roll and compressor as well as the sunroof bag and the retractable cover. The rear wiper doesn’t work – I have never bothered to work out why as I never used it when it did work but it should be a relatively simple fix/replace.

All the carpets are original and in very good condition.

I have the full set of original books that the car came with and lots of old MOT’s and receipts/invoices for items bought by me and my predecessors over the years.

I haven’t put any pictures as anyone serious about buying will want to come and see it anyway (and you wouldn't be on this forum if you din't know what it looks like) – I am close to the M1 J23, in a low, Tier 1, Covid area (ie not in or near Loughborough) but viewing will be socially distanced. Please note it is on a SORN at present. There are some pictures on my posts on here, or if you really want to see some of it today I will Whatsapp a couple to you.

In terms of price – once you’ve seen it we can discuss the price, but I have no unrealistic expectations of it having a five figure value, but nor am I going to give it away at a silly, low, only just in four figures price. I have been totally honest with my description of the car so you can arrive at a ball park value you place on it, and if you want to run that by me before you come to view you can – I don’t want to waste anyone’s time.

This car has been owned by enthusiasts for the majority of its 32 years - so I would prefer it to go to another one, hence why I have advertised it here first, but once the windscreen is done I will be advertising it elsewhere.

To arrange viewing give me a call on 07785 253436, and thank you for taking the time to read this.
