Hey i've just joined this forum because i'm looking for a 944,
unfortunately took a 300 mile round trip to go see one at a dealer's in Birmingham witch looked great in the advert however
when i got to the forecourt. it was in a very sad state and it was apparent that it had been sat there for sometime, it also did not have the FSH that it was advertised to have all in all it turned out to be an expensive day trip.

I hope to avoid dealers now, so i'm hoping to find an owner here who has looked after their 944 and wants to pass it on to someone knowing that they will appreciate it as much as they have.

I got around £2500-3000 at the moment, but might be able to scrape some more together.
I'd love to find a FSH black square dash 944 with black and black pin striped seats but this is not a deal breaker.
i will consider any 944, so if your looking to sell or know of a good square dash's please let me know. :D

Either way if anyone is looking to sell there 944 please let me know i'm very interested cash ready and waiting and willing to travel within reason
i'm based in Devon.

Thanks for taking the time to read this.
I look forward to getting to know a few of you soon.

Alex

oh and do you guys do meets? might be intrested in doing one once i acquire my new car :)

Might be worth looking at the stickies in the 944 section. lots of advice on buying a godd 944.

I could be tempted to sell you mine but doesn't have service history or pinstripe seats.

Good luck with the search

9 times out of 10 you will get a better car off someone who frequents these forums as they are enthusiasts and tend to look after their cars.

Get yourself to some TIPEC or PCGB events / meets 944 owners are a friendly bunch.

Read up on them and look at a few, you will find that more cars will come on to the market in the springtime and will have more to go at.

Generally mechanically bomb proof if they have been looked after, rust in the sills, rear arches and front wing edges and bottoms, rear suspension to chassis points, petrol tank straps and rear fuel lines.

Good luck with your search, keep us posted.

Thank you Frenchy, first car was a mini so i got to learn a little about cars through that but i have to admit,
my knowledge of 944's is very limited. my uncle suggested it for my next car when talking to him about what i want.
He's had 5 of them in the past and let me know what a great car they are especially for the value and being as i live by the sea the fact that they are galvanized is very applying. I don't think my mini liked the sea are as much as i do ha.

Thanks for the infomation, Its greatly appreciated.

Alex

p.s where do i find out about meets?

Sounds like your whiling to pay good money for a fair car. Square dash cars don't seem to go for as much as oval dash. I think with your budget you can get a trouble free car with many trouble free miles.

Bills can add up if you can do the work your self and find a good garage is another issue.

Best bet is to buy from forum, u can check the seller past post and expernace with the car if its been sheared.

Where u based as I'm sure someone will come kick tires with u. Really need to know what your buying in order to maximise value.

Seaton, south east Devon pretty much on the boarder of Dorset.

I'd like to think i could get something quite nice because my first car was a rust bucket when i got it and i know my uncle told me that even in its say the 944 had lot of features that weren't conman place in many other vehicles of the time, so you can get a lot of car for the money.

i've looked in to prices for things like tire's brake pads and disc and they don't seem to bad, a big change from a mini but cheaper in some respects than i expected.

thanks for the heads up on the seller previous posts i hadn't thought about that.

luckly my uncles owned a few 944 and has said he's happy to take me round to look at a few vehicles he's the one that drove me up to Birmingham this Sunday but its good to know.

Thank you again for the advice,
(this seems like a really helpful and friendly Forum)

Alex

I know Seaton well especially the Tramway!

Think carefully about what you are looking for, there is a buyers guide here written by some bloke :D
I looked at square dash cars & found the driving position wasn't great. Also the ventilation is better on oval dash cars, especially with a sunroof. If it is a daily driver, then in the summer you'll want the ventilation believe me.
Do NOT under estimate the rectification costs. Belts, engine mounts, Clutch & steering tend to be the first hits to the wallet on cars that need sorting.
