I know its all opinion but I do disagree with the location problem post. With such a nice car and such a 'specialist customer' , as a previous poster has mentioned you really will get people jump on an Easy Jet plane just to buy a car.

I drove to Wales to buy my last turbo and it was a nice adventure !. When this car went on e bay at 4,000 no reserve I really thought of a last minute bid as it was a great price BUT one thing stopped me. I didn't post re it before as I didn't want to post anything that wasn't genuinely helpful ! but it was the wings not the location. I am a classic car enthusiast like many 944 folk and those wings aren't just a minor mod like cup wing mirrors or a bridge spoiler, they totally change the car in to a 'modified or custom car'. I'd bet a penny to a pound that if you put standard Black wings on her , she would sell quite easily as such a nice example but obviously that wouldn't be cheap to do which is why I didn't buy her.

Best of luck to you

Mas

Indeed. I travelled 300 miles to buy this car in the first place, and 400 miles to buy the 944 I had before it.

But Jon does make a fair point. Being closer to more potential buyers widens the audience a lot. I’ve only had one guy view the car so far, and he only travelled 50 miles or so. (He did make me an offer, but it included p/x which I wasn’t interested in.)

i think its a bit off both. we all understand that by been willing 2 travel we can end up with a sound example. but we also have a high level 2 what a sound example is. however traveling 2 look at cars cost money, and the further away cars are the more it cost 2 go and see. this can add £500/1000 looking at 4/6 cars. fuel both ways or 3 ways if purscahed car is returned. it cost me £200 to get my 1st 944 from cornwall

and about the same 2 get my turbo from northfolk. i also took a day off work 2 look a s2 with 968 engine in it if i hadnt found the turbo 2 be worth it my serch would off countuned. so having the car local ish dose make it easyer 2 part with cash, expessly if this is your 1st 944. local car would off used local gargaes which u could check with if u needed, and if all turns sour on the way home after the deal, ur not stuck 300 miles from home.

also u lose them impolse buyers as theres alot more time 2 re think and arrange. the wings i dont think are tasteless and 1st time porsche buyer a few extra badges and bling mit just tip the car in there favour, but you could also lose out 2 the customer who always wanted one and wants it extaclly how he rembere them from the factory, cup mirrors and rear spoiler could also cause this.

Then you got 2 other types of customers, who have got the money ready or intend 2 find/ barrow the money. Price will just be right 4 the 1st but the 2nd will need 2 believe there getting a barging. Won't pay fair price. But will bite your hand off at in the sale price

thats my view anyway.

i think its just a hard time 2 sell and its a hard market due to the price range varing so much

wish u best off luck

I’ve still not had any bites on this car, even though it’s been advertised absolutely everywhere, from Autotrader to PCGB, Pistonheads to eBay.

I need to sell by the end of this month, even if that means taking a big hit on the price (it’s already been advertised reduced to £5k and still hasn’t sold).

So … before I give up and sell it to trade, would anyone here like to make me an offer? Nothing’s too low, I won’t be offended—I just might say no thanks!

I’d even consider p/x so long as it was for a cheaper classic (I’d consider anything I can get on a classic insurance policy—924, MG, etc).

It’d make a great extra car for someone, it’s served me well as a daily driver but is equally at home on trackdays.

Feel free to drop me an email on tony@typescape.com if you’d rather not post publicly about it.

Cheers!

It didn’t sell on eBay. Plenty of emailed questions, a couple of viewers in person offering me p/x for cars I didn’t want, but nothing more.

Hi Tony,

Wish your post had of been 2 weeks earlier. I had been hunting for a black one and had looked at yours on PH several times. I was not overly keen on the wings as I was looking for original, but otherwise she looked lovely!

I settled on guards red as the car I just purchased was heavily reduced because there was no interest / calls. The guy lived out in the middle of Norfolk, and the seller even said that some people called up and when told where they car was located decided it was too far!

If you want a quality car thats 23 years old, you need to put distance aside and be willing to travel. Surely thats all part of the fun!

Anyway wish you luck with the sale, and certain you will find a buyer for what appears to be a very clean 944.

phil....

Was it an auction type listing or classified ?. Hasn't Buchanan or whatever they are calling themselves now bid you in the nuts for the car yet ?.

It was up as an auction, twice. Hundreds of watchers both times, lots of emails expressing interest, but no bidders.

Yes, Mark from Buchanan came to view the car. He made me an offer and then changed his mind when I told him it had been Cat D with a previous owner. He wanted to strip all the mods and return it to standard anyway …

I missed the Cat D, maybe it was minor damage but someone has been paid out on the car in the past, what happens if someone else tried to claim again ?.

Two options in the event of making a claim on a previously cat-d or cat-c car.

Option - 1 where you have no agreed value with your insurance company.
You make a claim and they will mark down the industry established value of your car by up to 25%, but more usually you can negotiate this down to 10 to 15%

Option - 2 where you have an agreed value with your insurance company.
As long as your agreed value report mentions the cat-c or cat-d status of the car and the insurer has accepted it, you will get your agreed value in the event of a claim.

Real shame you haven't sold it yet, Cat D might put people off but at the price your asking it's hardly worth worrying about.

I would have no problems travelling to view your car it's only about 200+ miles from me but I could easily get a couple of trains over from the North East and if I did not already have an S2 and no space for another I would probably buy yours, I love the wings not so chuffed on the dark lights but these could be sorted easily enough not to worry me.

when I got my S2 I drove to Hull and back to view it then went back on the train a week later to collect it and drove it the 100+ miles back home, so to me distance is no issue for the right car.

Well, it’s sold now. Not sure when it’ll be collected, but the chap is 250 miles away—which proves our collective point I suppose.

Sold cheap, sight unseen, to a nice guy with a fine collection of cars.

Yeah, mixed feelings now. Glad it’s sold, I really had to do it. But I’m going to miss it …
