Post subject:  924 cold start problem......advice needed

Hi,
I am a new member and am needing some help with my 924,its a 1984 model 2 litre and it has not been run for 15 years. It has been looked at BMW dealers and Merc as relatives work there but the problem remains.
Car starts ok but only fires on 3 cylinders and runs for 5 secs, after repeating this a few times it will start to run on all cylinders and then runs fine all day.So its someting to do with cold starting I think,if anyone out there has any advice I would much appreciate some help.

thanks Keith

Hi :)

First can you tell us...

1, When were the plugs last CHANGED ?

2, When was the dizzy cap and rotor last CHANGED ?

3, When was the air filter and fuel filter last CHANGED ?

4, When were the leads last CHANGED ?

p.s By "CHANGED" I don't mean "looked at" or "checked" ...I mean changed as in you had to pay cash money for NEW parts............

All the best Brett :)

Umm mechanical injection this could keep you busy.

They run a cold start injector which from memory is driven from a bimetallic strip sensor, so getting a manual check this out. Also a possibility is low fuel pressure, has filter been changed? Also a dodgy injector as these only use pressure to open them, not a signal of electricity.
