As I posted before I'd book tomorrow though a Porsche Owner I don't want to track it and my other car isn't a Marcos though understand it's the two marques.

It is a shame more people don't get involved as the opportunity for a dedicated marque track day with limited numbers on track isn't what you get with the mainstream TDO's.

Is it worth our communications director putting an email out to all the R.O.'s to push the event and to also ensure that all regions have it listed on their regional page?

I suggested a joint effort with pcgb local group on page one. I would be interested to know exactly how the bookings are going and how many Marcos types have booked on.

I have no problem with pcgb members
Booking this event - the more the merrier.
Please feel free to post on pcgb forum

I'm not big on trackdays to be honest, meeting up and having a bit of fun with the cars is the good part of anything like this.

However, like me, if you only want do them once in a while or try it out to see if you like it or even just open the car up legally then I can't see why everyone isn't doing this club one.

Well said Paul. I'm no hero driver - it's just a fun day to play with your car's ability.

Unfortunately it's as Sean has said - after this event the forum will be full of folk wishing they had attended and joined in the fun.

I still think a lot of the problem is a fear of what is going to happen on the day. Track virgins imagine an adrenalin fuelled event with times being posted and everyone pointing a finger at the slowest drivers!

The reality is a laid back day with great banter, a chance to meet folk from other regions and forum and find out what your car really can do when you can legally push it a little harder than you would dare on the road.
No timing is allowed and all drivers will have to attend a safety briefing. Sighting laps will take place before the day starts for real so that everyone gets to see the circuit before driving in anger.

Without exception every driver that has attended a club track event in the past has enjoyed the experience. It's a lot of fun! :D

Paul

Hi

Well said Paul.

We did our first track day of the year yesterday at Mallory Park.

It was a blast once the day warmed up a little.

I cannot see for the life of me why the take up for the club event has been so indifferent.

On the forum I read about all the modifications people are doing to their cars and never seem to hear of them being tested or being exploited to their true potential. Mind you it's not that much different to other forums.

What's the problem, Blyton is safer than driving on the public highway. At least everyone is travelling in the same direction and closing speeds are low. There is also a safe run off everywhere so the probability of extensive damage is reduced. Not to mention the fact that the event will be policed by marshals who will deal appropriately with bad driving. The pre brief let's everyone know what standards are expected.

Coupled with all of that there will be loads of banter and good fun.

Finally, you can now give the motor the full beans without fear of points on the licence or a disqualification.

So, after all those positives let us know the negatives, over and above being on the road with your beloved Porsche, that stop you being there and joining in the enjoyment; after all the clue is in the name of the club.

If I hear that it's the cost then I do not believe you. I do not have a job, I live on a pension!

See you there

I am weighing this up at the moment. From Kent, it is about a 400 mile round trip and in a 924, that is a long way! The other negative is the thought of breaking something and then having to get home.

Keep talking, it might help me to make up my mind!!

200 miles each way isn't too far. Cheap accommodation is available. Surely you have some breakdown cover? Do it - it'll be an adventure! There was some bad news in the NW region over Christmas and it made several of us realIse that our cars are for using and our club is there to help provide the inpiration for creating little adventures.

Hi

At last

More and more positive outlooks

Agreed its a long way for some. Ask Paul what it's like to drive a track focused car to an event. I had to buy him a set of false teeth last month to keep him on board with the car! Yes we also have a 924 which many have seen at the NEC and in All Torque and at track days all over the U.K.

Like other commentators / contributors say "you only live once " so just do it" or regret for the rest of your life

Central Region also had bad news over the Xmas period and the funeral was a wake up call for many.

So, for those that worry about an on track contact accident let me reassure you. I have not seen one in 3 or 4 years of tracking the 924 and neither has Paul to my knowledge.

However, I have seen plenty of accidents on the public highway, especially this past month on the M42 and M40. So that suggests that track days are not that dangerous if well policed. The TIPEC event will be well policed, no doubt about it.

If anyone has a mechanical we can always push you onto the public highway and get your chosen recovery service to take you home!

Like I said "See you there"

Very good point regarding risk while driving on the road v track there.

Okay, here goes. I've never done one before until last year when I ended up going as a spectator (as my car was screwed) and I thoroughly enjoyed it. A lot of nice peeps gave me rides in their P n Js. No-one was being an arse and it was lovely & safe. You're encouraged to do a warm up / warm down slow lap so there's often slow cars on the track - I'll be pretending that I'm warming up / down when I'm going round Captain Slow style (they'll never know - don't tell 'em!). I'm driving up from Portsmouth and I've booked a Travelodge room for 2 in Grantham for £29 on the Friday.

Here comes the guilt trip: I'm semi-disabled - if I can do it, you can!!!!! Cya there hehe!!!!!!!!!!

Oh, and if it is opened up - I'm on the Boxa forum - there might be a few takers on there.
