Can anyone tell me how the early booking is going for this national event? NW region have 5 cars and 7 drivers booked now, and Darron has just chipped in to say he's coming along.

Have other regions got on board yet?

Wayne - you were at the last one. Did anyone crash or hit anything? Was the standard of driving/etiquette good? Were the marshals keeping an eye on things? Was there plenty of run-off? Weigh up the risk...

There's a risk at a track day and it's up to you if you insure against that risk. Some day to day policies include a track day or two anyway.

I'd be much more likely to insure my car at somewhere like Oulton on a general track day (but I didn't last November and all was fine).

Yeah I know Rich lol - that's what I meant by 'as a spectator'. Okay, we're up for it I guess. I'll make a few insurance calls and come to a decision dead soon but hope to see you all there! (was good last time - even without a car!)

Wayne make sure you're happy with the risk....this is an event to provide enjoyment, if you are apprehensive you won't enjoy it.

Insurers will provide comprehensive cover for a track day but at a price and there will be a compulsory excess which will be a considerable percentage of the cars value.

Have a look at the conditions stated in the Indemnity form required by the organisers

Blyton is a safe place with loads of run off and very little to hit.

I had a great time at this event in 2013

Insurance for the day - £95 + £1400 excess. Sounds reasonable - not! Well I'll just have to be Captain Slow won't I!

10-15% of the cars value as an excess does not seem too unreasonable.

As already said, the group will be respectful the numbers are limited and especially in the afternoon the track will hardly have anyone on it.

Wayne, it will be great to see you (and Sarah?) on track. This is NOT a demolition derby. The behaviour of participants in 2013 was exemplary. Just go at any speed you want....all other track users will not give you any hassle.

You are going to have such a good time :D

Just an extra thought; I think that sometines it is easy to imagine that a track day is also a race meet. It is not. It's an opportunity to to explore your/your car's performance on a track. At Blyton, on a specific tipec day, any over exuberance or bullying of nervous drivers will be frowned upon both by track management and club members. Personally, I don't want to crash into someone and I don't want someone crashing into me! Go along, be sensible, enjoy your car and your club. Stay safe, be happy, and send yer fuel economy flying!

Agreed - the marshalls will be strict on anyone not keeping to the safety rules. This is going to be a really great day out with your car - it's not going to be Death Race 2000 :D

Following discussion with Sean at our region's monthly meeting last night have now booked a place.

Just paying the money brought me out in a sweat so cannot imagine what will happen in May as it is my first trackday??

Fab, welcome on board. You'll be fine - just find your way around at your own speed and enjoy it. There are no speed limits, everyone is going the same way and Blyton is flat, open and by definition has excellent sight lines. It's a club only day so it'll be self policing. Oh, and on the day grab a passenger ride in Darron's GT3...

Here's a link to an old youtube video of Blyton in its infancy and a certain John Barker (ex of EVO magazine) showing you 'the line'. Bear in mind that Mr Barker is a fairly handy wheelman.
