Hello everyone., my first post on here, and wondering if anyone has details of where I can get an ANSA rear silencer for my 80, 928 S.
I contacted Eurocarparts as that,s where I bought the one I now need to replace, and they told me, it,s no longer listed, however there is a replacement part No which should do.

As soon as he mentioned £380 +vat, I declined his offer.
Could,nt believe they had gone up as much.., I still have the receipt from them for the last one, albeit was seven years ago I paid £150.

I,ve thought about an RMB, but having never heard a 928 with one I,m not too sure,as I don,t want too much noise, can anyone recommend them, and a supplier and price.
Although what I really want is just an ANSA replacement one,at a fair price..,
You may be wondering why I want that particular box, well it,s to match the middle silencer box, as somewhere in the distant past I was told you can,t mix and match the system due to differing bore sizes.

Thanks for any help offered !

Ken

Ken, if you want I could give you the number of someone who is breaking a couple of S2's. He might have something? I don't know where you would get a new one?

Many thank,s for the offer Lee.., whilst pondering what to do, I remembered getting the centre silencer (Ansa) from a company in Sheffield that specialises in classic car exhaust systems.
Rummaged through my old receipts and found there number, rang the bloke in charge and he could actually remember selling it to me ( amazing ) he,s going to try around for me and see what he can find.
In the meantime I decided to pull the rear silencer, came off easily, and set about with my angle grinder and a one eighth cutting disc.
After cutting the bottom off and half way up the sides I then cleaned out all the crap.., at this point I had expected the silencer to be full of sound deadening, which might cattle any rescue attempt, fortunately only each end of the box has sound deadening in, around two inches either end, and the depth of the silencer.., and is held in place with a metal plate the same size as the internal of the box, and lot,s of 3mm dia holes, I also drilled a one eighth hole on the bottom at it,s lowest point, so any condensation can drain out.
So basically all I did was weld new sheet metal in, dress off the welds and repaint the whole silencer ( black hammerite ) which works very well, as the back box does,nt get too hot.
I reckon it,s probably good for another 2 to 3 years, but in the meantime if this bloke in Sheffield has no luck, I,ll be looking out for one.

Ideally a stainless system would be the way to go ? thank,s again!

Ken

I think people who replace their exhausts these days go for a stainless one and are not too bothered about getting a fair old "note" out the back. Not many look for something quiet. The guys that buy second hand, that I know of, usually phone the likes of Simon Watson who breaks them to get money to build his 928. You would have a fine choice, as yours I think is the non-cat version? and a straight through would sound great. The neighbours would hate you, but the car would sound great.
