hello can any one suggest some light on this lighting problem on my 928 s4 1991 when the lights are turned on the front lights pop up as normal but it sounds like the motor on the drivers side does not turn off, eventually it does, if you touch the light the motor sound comes back on and goes off again any clues what i can do to fix it thanks john |

The headlight motor incorporates a circular contact disc which signals when the lights have reached raised position. You could either strip down the motor and check whether this contact disc is bent (sounds most likely), or obtain a used motor from breaker. If sourcing another motor, make sure you get the later 928.624.023.00 for your car (pre-86 used 928.624.021.00 with different connector and wiring). One other thing to try is the headlight relay (big double relay right hand side of electrical panel), but from your description of touching light and motor running this is much less likely to be at fault. Best way to test is to borrow working relay from another owner with your model year (the lighting relay changed frequently in detail of operation) and swap it in, but my money's on the motor. To change motor raise lights, make note of position of arm, pull motor fuse and remove arm from splined shaft then you can unbolt motor from slotted holes. PS Did you/Paul A identify the fault causing your engine cut-out problem? |

hi stratford shark, hey many thanks for that, thats brilliant I will source the unit and replace it. Regarding the cutting out problem, I reckon its fixed paul changed the ht leads and found that there was tape holding them together and sparks flying out on the engine casing, what a night mare problem, i think a sensor had gone too, it seems to be running really smooth now, so fingers crossed thanks for asking too for got to reply on post best wishes john ps will post some pics soon my s4s almost finished from resto now |
