I know that there can be plenty of issues with 928 aircon, and many people don't bother with it.

I wondered if it was better to use it more often. I've bought a 20 year old Ferrari and on that the aircon is activated all the time, unless you turn off the HVAC altogether. You can't have heating or cooling without the aircon coming on.

The result of this is that the aircon is more reliable, and usually still working after 20 years. Good job really when you look at Ferrari parts prices!!

better to use it at least once a month as it lubricates the seals etc.

Constant or regular use is supposed to prevent the funny mouldy smell that it can emit if only used ocaasionally.

:( The air con packed up on my 928 and upon getting it checked over there was green refridgerant dye all over the compressor which clearly appeared to be shot to bits. I was sent a recon compressor by Richard Armstrong courtesey of the garage I bought the 928 from and a new drier which were fitted. All seemed well, lovely ice cold air when the button was pressed, for all of two journeys and now it's packed up again. There was a very small puddle of green dye on my garage floor, the compressors clutch engages when you press the button, but no cold air, zip diddly!
Does anyone know which is the best compressor to fit rather than a recon unit, http://www.griffiths.com/porsche/ac/928ac/ has anybody had experience of the Kuehl compressor listed on this site? :(

Hi :)

I SERIOUSLY doubt that one of Richards rebuilt compressors has failed...and I am CERTAIN that if it did he would replace it...hes a very good and honest guy...

Give him a ring.....let me know if you need his number.... there is NOTHING he does not know about 928 aircon systems...

All the best Brett :)

:) Brett, I don't doubt Richard's integrity as he is highly recommended by all who have dealt with him, the problem I have is that I have no way of taking my car to him and leaving it for 2 - 4 days, especially as I'm likely to be losing my licence very shortly after a bit of exuberant driving! I shall obviously get it checked to try and establsih what has failed this time. I was just speculating if it is the compressor, even being rebuilt they still only have a finite life span and it may just have come to the end of it's life, which one should I go with if it does need replacing. Is the OEM Denso type still the best for the job or would the Kuehl one be a better option, I'm assuming it's a more modern unit which has been adapted to fit the 928 amongst others. :)

Hi :)

I would "guess" that Richard rebuilds standard 928 compressors..not modern units..

A "Richard" rebuilt unit would, as a guess , last around 20 years lol....

All the best Brett :)
