I have a rhythmic knocking coming from the torque converter on my S4. I know I've posted about this before, but I believe it's possible for the rear pinch bolt on the torque tube to come loose (at the torque converter end). I wonder, what are the symptoms of this? Could it be causing a rhythmic knocking/tapping? I believe there is an access hole in the torque tube housing for checking the pinch bolt. However to get to it you have to remove the exhaust heat shields, and I don't want to spend all afternoon lay on my back doing that if it won't be the pinch bolt that's at fault.

The fault seemed to appear suddenly. There's also an associated vibration at idling speed that feels like an engine misfire (but is not)

Can't help but I know a man who can. There are loads of people of the 928.org.uk list and Rennlist who are are infinitely more capable and knowledgeable than me. They will be able to help.

Is this after that garage looked at it, or the same problem you mentioned last week still unsolved?

I took it to the garage but after having it for a week they had not looked at it, and they said it would be another week at least before they could get to it, so I collected it. Nobody has looked at it yet.

Well, just been out in the car tonight and it still performs OK. Took a chance and floored it coming up our hill, nothing broke or blew up. I'll be interested to find out what the noise is when it eventually gets repaired. Broken blade in the torque converter?

Also pressed the "will it won't it" switch (air con button) and it still worked!
