Do I need them and are they for front and rear?

Hi Brett,

I am told it is the replacement springs and bits in the caliper. Listed on Porscheshop site

Dont bother with that!

I dont even know what they are trying to sell you........

If you have single pot floating calipers there is a spring only on the fronts at £4.63 each, on the rear there is a kit of pins, spring clips at £44.00 for the axle set

Could this be that rear kit of pins? Do I need it.
I just bought some braided cables, so am nearing £700 in parts to do the job already :-)

You dont really need it Im sure, but if you do want to fit them, go to Porsche OPC and get them to give you the correct bits, The Porascheshop wont have the bits, they will have to buy them in from Porsche and it will all end in tears Im sure... :roll:

More or less got all the bits now... got the calipers from Brake International and they look good.
Front discs and x4 sensors I got from Euro Car Parts.
Braided hoses I got from Ebay (Goodridge set)
Rear pads after German and Swedish let me down I got from local Motor Factors for £30+vat (Lucas part)
Only thing I am missing is rear discs ... unfortunately I was let down on these and wont get them in time for Friday fitting so going to bung them on myself next week. Shouldn't be too tricky?

Hi Paul :)

I got a set of those Goodridge braided hoses from Ebay...fronts were fine but rears would not fit...cannot remember why but think it was a bevelled end of thread that was wrong...so be warned...although maybe its because mine has the S4 brakes, although I did tell them at the time....

Will try them myself before I drop the parts off at the garage. There is another set for 86MY onwards from Goodridge. Fingers crossed mine are ok!

Changing the rear discs when they arrive wont be tricky will it?

Impact screwdriver works well on the disc retaining screws (they are installed with very low torque, but if corroded a normal philips screwdriver risks damaging the heads).

Handy to have pair of M8 bolts to press disc off hub if it's stuck to it, else use the big hammer technique!

An update ..... the fun continues ... thankfully I am in the right frame of mind at the moment so keeping my cool.

After German and Swedish let me down on the rear pads this week I bought them from a local parts place, which was ok, except I then realise that I already had a set that looked familiar. I checked and the other company whom I bought some Mintex front pads off had sent me rears as well! So two sets of rears and no fronts yesterday. The local parts guys managed to get some fronts overnighted (at a cost) as the car was being done today.
Dropped it off this morning with all the bits and just knew I would get a call. 3 hours later I get a call to say one of the new calipers is faulty! So drove round to see it and indeed it had issues. Rang the caliper company to be told another would be with me Tuesday.
Then they showed me the new discs I had bought. They didnt fit the new or old calipers. Because they are off an S4!!! The muppets at Euro Car parts had sent me the 86 on larger discs even though I selected 1983 to 1985 Discs!
Also - I do need the brake fitting kits ... they contain a pin that goes from one side to the other and it has split pin to hold it in place .... but they are corroded and snapped off (in fact are stuck in the pin)
Also one of the front brake springs was missing all together, so need to grab two of those as well :-)
Another issue that came up that thankfully wasn't a problem for me is over the hoses.
The hose that goes from the brake line to the caliper had a square end connection. The new calipers have a circular connection. Thankfully I had bought new Goodridge hoses that had circle ends. Had I not, the calipers would not have fitted either!
Going to have a drink ...
