Post subject:  End of the bargain 928?
I've been looking (and bidding) on a few 928's on ebay as I fancy another one. Even ropey non-running ones are making £1500.
I guess in one way this is a good thing, and might be a sign of increasing values.

Maybe - I noticed that new GTPorsche opined values couldn't get lower.

Otoh Could be more people are wising up to the parts value of these cars, running or not. Remember the thread about the £1200 PSD unit?

PSD unit? Is that a GTS part? Something to do with the limited slip differential I'm guessing.

Yes it's the computer controlled, variable ratio limited slip diff for MY 90 onwards. Very sophisticated system, and I seem to remember someone here found they were around £1200 to replace!

Hi :)

As Adrian says its an electronically controlled LSD (sort of) but you cannot fit it to an early car....

I don`t like the way 928 prices are dropping either as once prices drop below £2000 then a lot of people (breakers and dealers) start buying them to break for parts as £2000 to £3000 is around what you make if you break one into tiny pieces :(

You only have to look on Ebay to see proof of this...... whole cars being sold in parts :( :(

:( If 928 prices are dropping I guess that makes me pretty stupid as I just paid £14k for mine, I'm not sure if the other members car (Chris Kenward?) that was for sale at Harbour Cars fetched it's asking price of £16 995? There have been a few advertised recently ranging from bearable to steep including one very low mileage car at the moment which has just been reduced from £26 995 to £24 995. Even if the prices drop I think I'll get more fun out of the 928 than I would have £14k euro box, at least to the point where the fuel consumption bankrupts me, currently averaging between 14.5 & 17.5, is this normal or do I need a lighter shoe? :)

Normal lol...thats pretty good :)

My daily driver 928 in town get around 10 to 12 mpg...

On Nitrous think 2 to 4 mpg lol :)

If you spend more time on the open road and less in town you should be able to average about 20mpg, once you've got over the initial desire to accelerate hard as often as possible for the thrill of it :D

I have seen others claim much higher figures, but I think they must have been looking at the instantaneous mpg reading when they had their foot off the pedal, rather than the average!

That's a low figure for open road, but presumably the larger-engined GTS is thirstier than my S4.

For a long time I monitored the mpg by keeping records, just out of curiosity (not a daily driver so fuel is really insignificant part of the running costs).

Was averaging low 20s, but best on a run was 25mpg but driving gently.

:) I think the biggest problem is that the novelty hasn't worn off yet, I keep it nice and sedate for a few miles and then see an open space and make use of it. :)
