 Post subject: cost of plug change?

My car has had an unexpected trip to Paul Anderson for one problem so I'm thinking of getting some routine maintenance done whilst its there. How much does a plug change ususually cost. Hopefully the car wont be there any longer than necessary but heavy snow in Stroud is impeding progress.

You would need to check with Paul for his estimated time, but the plugs for my S4 (WR7DC) usually cost me about £20 for all 8.

You don't list your model details, but apart from the very minor matter of popping airbox off for access to No 4 plug, and having to use a few different extensions, there are no special issues with changing plugs on an S4 and any earlier model would be same or simpler.

If you are unsure of their provenance , it may be worth doing a lead change as well, my car was running fine, but I checked and found the leads,caps etc were original(1996) so changed the lot and the plugs,it made a substantial difference to the car :)

I'm about to change the plugs and leads on the new engine in my S2. How did it make a difference. I'm hoping the MPG will improve a little (starting in the cold is a little hit and miss but it's been pretty good as of recent!) but the leads and rotor arm are original.

The car just starts/runs better, I am told that if you take the leads out of their clips, and they retain the shape , its time to change, if they are "floppy" they are ok

Revealing test for cracked leads is in dark garage spray some water mist around leads when running and look for "fireflies".

I'd normally say NGK but I know 951 owners seem to have mixed reports about them and the cores splitting (I admit it is the modded 951s where this is the case), so I would probably stick with the stock Bosch items that the car came with.

The Porsche engineers probably know more than me - the manual recommends Bosch or NGK

I always run NGKs ...from standard Bpr6es for normal running up to 9`s for Nitrous and never had any problems with them......
