Hello, everyone,i have just joined - thanks for having me.
I am considering purchase of a 928 gts.
I drove one this week, an auto.
Whilst i feel that the car is probably suited to an auto, i am very keen on v8 noise, so i need the window open to appreciate the sounds, and am wondering increasingly, if a manual is better for me.
I have read about x pipe, and rmb, but the one i tried was standard.

also, there are not many about so i suspect i will have to wait for a good one.
Is £14k the right price for say 1995, 60-70,000 miles, in very good condition and no problems ?
Any comments to the new boy wuld be appreciated. i have looked at 928.0rg, and pistonheads and autotrader, and ebay, to monitor the market...

One of the best 928s has just come on the market, by this I mean Chris Kenwards. Chris is around here somewhere as he's looking at a 996TT. I think he has chopped it with RSJ.

Chris is one of the good guys so I would send him a pm, he can tell you where he did his deal, if he part ex'd the 928 etc etc.

A question:

Does anyone have a schematic of the dimensions of the 928 gts. I am particulary interested in the distance from the edge of the front and back wheel, to the edge of the bodywork, lengthways.
This is because i have a step in my garage, which reduces the access.
I have looked on the net but have not been succseeful.

Chris Kenward's 928 is now up for sale at the showroom. Looks good !

Hi there

Well... I thought he'd go for more money than that. He's done the wheels and probably has had the very respectable bunch of folks he uses for the techie side of things go over the car. I'd say it's now probably one of the most attractive 928 GTS' available at the moment. £16,995 might sound a lot but it's a very rare manual, Guards Red example and is an absolute gem. Actually, if you made him an offer, you'd probably find he's flexible, although for goodness sake don't say I told you to do that 'cos I might be absolutely wrong!

Go for it! The car is definitely one of the best available in this country - bar none.

Hi :)

There is no difference in V8 sound between a Manual and an Auto...

RMB and X-Pipes WILL make a sound difference , but not manual or auto....

Hi Chris,

What jobs would you say need doing on the car immediately or in near future, if any? I understand that the dealer does any due servicing but apart from that...? In other words what was on your 'to-do list' shortly before you sold it (and 928 owners always have lists <g>)?

You don't know Chris do you? I'd guess that if it needed doing it had been done! He was a tad anal about it lets say :mrgreen:

Hi Jim, have never had pleasure of meeting Chris but of course know him by reputation as one of the great 928 experts. It's precisely because he's fastidious that I was curious about what someone who knew 928s so thoroughly would deem worth doing on a well-sorted car - there's always some job!

I'm 928-biased, but if nothing needs attention then this is great value for someone at the asking price. They really don't make them like this anymore because it would cost too much.

ANAL? EXPERT? ME? Never!! Well... ANAL perhaps! <bolt>

As far as I remember the following items needed taking care of:

Complete Wheel refurb - Looks as though that's already been sorted.
Cambelt (not really needed but he was talking about doing it anyway)
Paint in one small area was bubbling (aluminium anodisation) - he was going to get that sorted.
(he has a brilliant paint shop almost next door - I've seen their work - GOOD!)
Small oil leak (not sure - could be sump gasket or rocker cover) - He was going to sort that.
One dash bulb was out. He was going to sort that.

The car has brand new tyres on the rear and the fronts haven't done more than 500 miles. The clutch is like silk. The aircon works perfectly, as does: PSD, RDK, sunroof, interior lights... it's all there and fine.

He's giving it a 12 month AA warranty. He's obviously sure it's OK.

The car has X-pipes. It's a beaut - buy it! LOL
