I guess its a case of if you love a car that much and you have the funds to do it then why not?
If I was him though at that money your getting into XJ220 territory.. (ok you may need to add 20K or so 
) which maybe a better long term investment?

I was joking to the wife last night about the 928 "costing me a fortune" as I've spent £2,000 on it, and she said "look at this", handing me the classic car magazine I'd just bought. There's a guy in there who has recently bought a Jaguar XJS, admittedly a TWR special edition one, but he threw it at a restorer and it came back with a bill for SEVENTY FIVE THOUSAND POUNDS. The XJS TWR has 330bhp, similar to the 928 S4. The Jaguar now looks fabulous of course, but it made me think, I've got my 928 S4, arguably a better car than the XJS, it's in pristine condition, and it's cost me a total of £7,000. |

Keep the 928, say 40 Hail Porsches and clear the unpure XJS thoughts from your head... Live and breathe the Marque, Stephen |

Not difficult to spend that sort of cash on a restore. The TR7V8 was £16K & I did the engine & all the front suspension. It was also on a rust free californian shell so no major body work apart from the LHD-RHD conversion & paint. |

Easy to spend cash on restoration but sadly not easy to recoup it. |

Very true .... I bet that guy wouldn't sell his XJS for more than £30k max? But its probably a car he will hang on to. Depreciation on a new car is just as bad. |

I agree, I wasn't having a go at the guy, if he loves the car and is loaded why not? Car restoration is rarely viable financially. My last two cars were a 1946 Morris 8 and a 1932 Standard Little Nine. Both cars had been previously restored by somebody, and I purchased the cars for a fraction of the restoration cost. |
