Hi All, Had her put thropugh an MOT tooday to see what needed doing. It had 17 fails, and 14 advisories. I dont think the tester was impressed! Worse of the fails was steering column movement which I think might be linked to another fail which is new steering rack needed as excessive play. Other major fail item is excessive corrosion on both rear suspension mounting points, which surprises me as the car is pretty rot / aluminium corrosion free. The rest were small items such as washer bottle, missing petrol cap seal, front brake binding, fog lamp not working and fog lamp indicator not working. Indicators flashing to fast, ABS warning light on, rear number plate light dangling down ![]() The advisories were no big deal ... surface corrosion on a few bits, CV Split, faint beam from healdight, brakes only just at strength. Bottom line is lots to do! At least I know .... to be honest thought there would be more issues! Regards Paul |

Hi ![]() The tester need retraining.... Some of those are NOT fails... "Indicators flashing to fast"...no speed set as long as all 4 work in pairs and all 4 for hazards... Our 928s do NOT have a petrol cap seal....i have seen this fail before on forums...and when checked its not needed on a car to which they were NOT fitted...we have a breather system instead , so we CANNOT have a sealed system... All the best Brett ![]() |

Evening Brett, I did think it odd about the flashing as I have to say I dont think it looks that bad anyway. In fact it looks perfectly normal and by conicidence had replaced the relay recently. On the seal though ... I did see on the 928uk list someone failed and bought a replacement, so will discuss with them and see what the conclusion is. My understanding was the car doesnt have one as well. Steering rack is my biggest concern .... also some confusion here as I have found what appears to be bits of steering rack for sale. .. so why cant I replace these parts rather than replace the whole rack? Fail specifically sayd I need a new rack. Could be worse though .... the emissions were really good @ .31% At least its not a cut and shut ![]() Regards Paul |

There should be a rubber gasket at the top of the filler pipe, which is the item on which an owner failed recently. The confusion was that he thought the gasket should be on the cap itself, whereas it's on the end of the filler and seals against bottom of cap threads. |

Hi Jim, The fail sheet says as you do ... max is 120 flashes per minute. There is no way mine is flashing at that rate. (or more!) I am going back though for a quote on the steering rack at the same place so will pull them on it. Tester must be seeing something I can't! Regards Paul |

Try a Porsche specialist rather than a local mechanic if you can, they tend to have more sympathy for idiosynchratic older cars! Also, pick a busy one, they'll pass as much as they can since they don't want any more work... |

I'm with you Jenpot ... I used these guys as know them quite well and knew it would fail plus they are 2 miles away. It gives me a to do list! They are steering, suspension and brake specialists so will get them to the rack once I find one. They can do the tiny bit of welding as well. Then its off to Paul A's for Cam belt and a few other bits. |

This would give a problem at the MOT but not later? |

Hi Jim, Could be ... I will check that.. Or possible intermittent short on the back of the lamp perhaps? The rack worries me more ![]() Regards Paul |
