Looks somewhat, shall we say, tatty, but I'm considering it as its a manual. Not much time left on the auction, so I probably wont get to look at it before it ends, but interested to see what the rest of you have to say.

Hi :)

Well................ clever photos of drivers seat lol...id bet its gone through the lower bolster...not drastic and around £70 for a new leather section.....

The engine ......ugh..........it looks awful generally.....air filter old , general lack of ANY maintenance on it....

The car MAY be ok.......but I would want to drive it FIRST !!!

No mention of cambelt/water pump etc or ANY service history.....he says he has owned it for 2 years with no history...so in other words even he has not had ANYTHING done to it in 2 years...

I would ask him how it drives, when was the cambelt last done...and how much of the electrics DO NOT work.....

So IMHO.....it MAY be worth 2k...or £2.....

You would HAVE to see and drive it to tell.....

If it was me and really couldnt get to drive it, I would offer him £500 and then walk away....

All the best Brett :)

As Brett said I would be nervous about the total lack of history. If the guy has owned it two years he must have something?
Also ask if the AC and windows etc work and the oil pressure at tickover.
The car looks tidy but you would have to do something with the interior.

What about: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1986-PORSCHE-928- ... 3ca68b8910

The interior is much better too and white is the in colour of the moment.

:)

If you would consider an auto then check out this car. A late 87, high mileage but with nearly 60K of reciepts including engine and gearbox rebuilds. I have seen the car a couple of times (york drag way and the guy lives 10 minutes away). He said he would accept 2750. It is now relisted so 2500 might get it? Tempted myself.

Hi, Just had a quick look at the two cars, plus points on the Gold car are: long MOT (12 Months) Manual, Low mileage..but this cant be proved.. no service history is an issue..but may not mean car is disaster..some people dont realise the value of keeping the recipets etc..for the money it dosent look too bad..ive seen worse engine bays! I'm not sure about the blue seats..would this be correct with brown dash/console in 1980 (MY)? Maybe someone can correct/confirm this to you?

White is the colour of the moment and this car looks nice in the pics too. Although the seller admits body is only fair. I think I too prefer the colour combination (interior/exterior).

It would be wise to consult your 928 Buying guide and at least confirm a few details over the phone before bidding then you have some come back if not the case when you finally "collect" the car. I would always recommend that anyone looks at a car before purchasing, but thats the nature of ebay I guess..the opportunity to get a bargin!!

£2000ish for a car like this is no money really! Good Luck..and remember "Buyer Beware"

Cheers

Blue seats were not an option with brown. Also - I think the rear storage lid is not attached or missing. Seats are also in poor condition with onehaving quite a rip? Rears don't look great either?

Thanks "watchman" I thought as much. (I have been studying hard in my short time in 928 ownership :D ) I thought blue and brown would be a bit eccentric..mind you the cost of these cars new and options available..you never know..owner number 1 may have been Ozzy Osbourne!..but unlikely!

I do think that those who are purchasing a 928 in this price range can't really expect perfection, at £2K (any car) if its got a full MOT and is run & drives what more can you expect.. you could always buy a 5 year old Ford Ka and sleep at night?

Its the old saying (again) that you get what you pay for..though in Ebay world there is always a chance of a genuine bargain!

Cheers

Thanks for all your comments.

I've spoken to the owner of the gold car who said that he'd serviced it himself but nothing major like a cambelt etc. I cant get to look at it before the auction ends anyhow. The other white car is of real interest though, so I'm hopefully going to make the trip from London and go and see it tomorrow. Obviously much depends on the condition but estimates on what its worth would be interesting.
