I was fitting a stereo to the 928 on Saturday. My car has the roof aerial, and there is the usual plug that goes into the aerial socket on the radio. However there is a wire with an insulated male spade connector, it's bonded to the the aerial feed wire so is clearly part of the aerial. What is this for? Does the aerial require a switched live feed connecting to this wire? Or is it an earth? The aerial does work with it not connected. |

It's the supply lead for the RF amplifier at the base of the antenna. I'm surprised you have reception without it connected - yes if it's what I think then it requires switched 12V feed which should be available from rear of the stere you've fitted (usually this is available to feed motor for retractable aerial). I have almost no radio reception, so now I've sorted new rear speakers I need to take off sunroof motor cover to see what's problem with my aerial amp. |
