I was fitting a stereo to the 928 on Saturday. My car has the roof aerial, and there is the usual plug that goes into the aerial socket on the radio.
However there is a wire with an insulated male spade connector, it's bonded to the the aerial feed wire so is clearly part of the aerial.

What is this for? Does the aerial require a switched live feed connecting to this wire? Or is it an earth? The aerial does work with it not connected.

It's the supply lead for the RF amplifier at the base of the antenna. I'm surprised you have reception without it connected - yes if it's what I think then it requires switched 12V feed which should be available from rear of the stere you've fitted (usually this is available to feed motor for retractable aerial).

I have almost no radio reception, so now I've sorted new rear speakers I need to take off sunroof motor cover to see what's problem with my aerial amp.
