OK so has anybody tried to replace the sump gasket? Looks like the cross member will have to be removed/lowered to get the sump off, is it just a case of removing all the sump bolts and it comes off (after draining the oil of course!)

Also another odd little "fault"...the T-handle for the automatic transmission is loose, you can rotate it 90 degrees....clearly not right. Do I need a new handle? It does still work OK and the previous owner says it was like that when he got it, so it's not going to fall off or anything.

Hi :)

You cannot do the sump gasket in situ...but usually the bolts loosen over the years and need nipping up and if you carefully tighten them all, and some are a pig to get at...it usually stops any leaks....

The previous owner is WRONG....mine did that rotating thing...and then one day I pulled it back hard and ended up with it in my hand lol.....

I then changed it for a MOMO one as the bottom of the shifter was broken....and they are NOT cheap :(

Picture shows my Momo one it has the button on top and is miles better...they come in a choice of silver or black.

All the best Brett :)

Sorry I misrepresented the previous owner there....he just said that it was like that when he had it, and the comment that it would not fall off was just my assumption.

Anyway, that Momo replacement looks great, is it easy to fit?

Just a thought.... have you pushed the gator down a little to make sure the cross-head screw is still in place?
I had a similar problem with mine - and eventually on route to Merry Miller meet the T bar top came off.......... luckily I found the cross head and tightened it back up .... and it is still ok....

All the best

I checked and the plastic is broken completely on the handle. I'll see how much they are from Porsche and then decide what to do. (original or alternative replacement)

If you're considering buying a new alternative and are feeling rich, one I have heard good things about (but not tried myself) is this one, available from that site (the person who makes them) or from some resellers in the USA - I'm not aware of any sources in the UK. Just note that if you're e-mailing the Australian site there has been some talk on another board lately that not all the e-mail addresses seem to get a response, I think the info@ address was the most successful.

Well, the Porsche dealer says that the handle is obsolete, but the price was £150 and I wouldn't have paid that anyway. I'll look at the alternatives mentioned above.

An update on this broken shift handle. The handle is NOT obsolete, but it's only available in black, and it's £150 plus VAT. I just couldn't bring myself to pay that.

I bought a good used one off ebay for £30.

How easy was it to fit? I cant work out how it connects to anything to make it work if you know what I mean. I wonder if mine is missing the connection as well.
You were lucky to pick one up ... have been waiting for one on ebay for ages. Mind you I need blue one, so the waiting continues! She is booked for MOT on Saturday ... going to be interesting to see how bad she fails!

Removal is one of easier 928 jobs! Pull up rubber boot, remove screws one each side, pull up handle.

Good find on ebay Lightning. There was a brand new black one on last week in Porsche box. Opening bid was £99 so it attracted zero bid, but sounds like a useful saving on the Porsche price.

But I cant see how the button on the T connects to anything. I just have a spiky thing sticking out the top of the metal post (if that makes sense) Mine is off already.
