Hi everyone I'm still looking at a 928 to get. Just out of interest I was looking at the acceleration figures for a 928 GTS manual compared to my Golf GT170DPF. How do I compare the different gear ratio figures for say 5th gear acceleration 50-70mph. My Golf is a six speed box but the 928 a five speed. So in 5th my Golf is nearly the same time 0.3 sec slower than the 928 but in top gear, 6th, it's a whopping 3.2 sec slower so should I be looking at the ratio below to compare the 928 acceleration? I think I just answered my own question while writing this but opinions on how great the 928 is, is always welcome. Also can anyone explain BHP and Torque to me as I've never really got to grips with it. I know torque is good, why I went for the diesel Golf instead of petrol. Both have same BHP but diesel has way more torque and mid range acceleration is way better. Sorry for whaffling on ![]() Andy |

Hi Andy ![]() I am in Bournemouth so not so far from you.... if you want to come up to me I will show you how powerful a 928 is lol ![]() Mine is an S2 , so only a measly 4.7 ltr engine (ignoring my Nitrous) but my S2 will outperform ANY Golf on this planet with a standard engine in it...and a GTS IS FASTER than mine....(again without my Nitrous running) Torque = Grunt Hp = Power/Speed You NEED Torque to pull the car up to speed and HP to keep it there...sort of lol ![]() A huge V8 (like in a 928) has ENORMOUS amounts of torque which is why GTS has a top speed approaching 180 mph.... Your 5th gear....in a 928 you will be in SECOND for 50-70 ,you wont even change up to 5th if pushing it until around 120 ish... Hope this helps ![]() All the best Brett ![]() |

Hi Brett Cheers for info. Are you going on Haynes Museum trip this Saturday? I haven't heard if it's still going ahead or not but hopefully it is as I've lived here over two years now and still not gone there even though it's only 10 mins away. Andy |
