Post subject:  928 as a daily driver?

Hi all,Brand new to this site,I am currently researching the practicality of buying/running a 928 as a daily driver/retro company car and would greatly appreciate the benefit of the experience and advice that those that already do have to offer.I am not completely green,I have a 944s2 as a summer toy and run an alpina as my main car at the moment so understand the demands of more specialised vehicles and dont expect 40 mpg and ford fiesta servicing costs!.As I have said, any input gratefully received.

I had an S2 for a year and it was pretty much my only car during that time

Well I did have a cheap runabout but only did 100 miles in that one, covered 8000 in the 928
Wouldn't have had it any other way :D

In my view, all cars run best when used on a regular basis

I would think a 928 would make a great retro daily driver, you will need to find a good one that is well sorted.

Good luck and keep us posted.

I don't run mine as a daily driver but keep asking myself why not, other than the fact that it's such a great car that I don't want to dilute the sense of occasion that comes with driving it. I know many 928 owners who run it as their only car, and yes it's true that they can 'sulk' if they're not driven enough. The great thing about the 928 is that it's happy in all sorts of roles. You're obviously resigned to the fuel costs, but if you want to keep other costs down you should be prepared to do as many jobs as you can yourself - there just isn't the 'ecosystem' of specialists that exists for other Porsches with a couple of honourable exceptions. There's an incredibly supportive and knowledgeable owner community though to help out on the diy side.

with the rear seats down the boot is huge, I was doing up a house while mine was my daily drive.
I had some strange looks from people outside Wickes when I was chucking in 8 bags of sand and cement into the boot :D

btw
have you got a good multimeter ?

Hi :)

I use mine as a daily driver...

The only down side is fuel costs...

As an example....start in morning...drive 3 miles to work.....so engine still cold until I am almost there.... Fuel consumption between 10 - 12 to the gallon :)

200 mile trip the other day...average consumption around 18 to the gallon....

Hit my Nitrous switch lol...average consumption....2 to 5 to the gallon :)

Having said all that, here is my famous saying...

When I go out in the morning and that HUGE V8 rumbles into life, it makes me smile all day.....

Nothing to beat it , with your clothes still on :) :)

If you are anywhere near me I will happily look at some with you if it helps...

Oh and one final comment when viewing...the Aircon does NOT just need re gassing lollll....

All the best Brett :)

I have had my 928 GT for over a year now and have used it as a daily driver....its been thouroughly reliable. My journeys have been 10 mile round trips to and from work, usually witha n extra excursion at lunch times as I enjoy driving it so much.

This came to an end when my office closed and I was relocated much further away. Now I have an 80 mile round trip and I wouldn't be in any other car...it handles motorways with such ease...comfortable and that V8 makes it such great fun! :)

The benefit of motorway driving is my fuel consumption. I used to average 15mpg, allowing me to travel a little over 200 miles, but this has now improved to about 19-20mpg allowing nearly 300 miles. The icing on the cake is that my company now pays 25p per mile towards it. :D
