Help and advice Please

928 S2 1986.5

Few months back had overheat and fluid loss in slow moving traffic. Found leak from regulator housing due perished o ring. Replaced o ring and then found hose to header bottle leaking. Trimmed hose refitted, pressure test and found expansion tank rad cap not holding pressure. Replaced with OEM rad cap, further pressure test now ok. Also refitted faulty coolant level sender.

Still running hot as follows ..

When at motorway speeds temp gauge indicated mid point, between upper and lower normal limit. When in slow moving traffic temp gauge creeps up to sit just above upper normal white mark. This is with or without air conditioning on full.

The viscous fan has resistance when cold ( will spin but not freely) and similar resistance when hot. If I increase rpm when stationary to about 2500 rpm this will reduce the indication on the gauge to just back within normal range. Fluid level in expansion tank when cold is normal.. so no fluid loss.

The pusher fan when car turned off is running for a good 30-40 mins post shut down.

It seems that any driving in stop start traffic is a no no. ! Any pointers where to look next welcome.

Regards

Howard
