... this time it's for the glovebox. How on earth is one supposed to change the bulb in the glovebox light?! I can't see how to take it out...

Thanks as always!

I can’t check now but isn’t it similar to door lights? Just push to one side to release spring contact?

That would have been my thought too, but I couldn't find a tab or a slot to stick anything into to move a tab when I looked earlier..

I just checked mine and as you open glove box, facing you, there's a cut out in the lens letting you pop in screwdriver blade or similar to prise the light unit out. You can see it in attached photo.

Actually you reminded me that this is only interior light that I hadn't converted to a LED festoon bulb, but not concerned as it's only lit when glove box open. The issue with other bulbs is they are on if you leave door(s) open working on car with battery connected, so the total drain is about 50W with filament bulbs! Also the glove box is a 3W bulb, not the standard 10W of roof and door lights.

Thanks for the picture!

I went out and had a look, but I couldn’t find a cut out in my lens at all - maybe it’s been replaced at some point with a different one.

Anyway, I managed to pull the lens down with my nails, and discovered the reason why the glovebox light wasn’t working - it didn’t have a bulb!! Or so I thought, anyway - I put in a new festoon bulb (LED) but I can’t get it to illuminate so I’m guessing it’s either the switch, some wiring issue behind the glovebox or a blown fuse. I’m going to see if the glovebox light runs from a different fuse to the rest of the interior lighting, but if it’s not a fuse then the glovebox is going to have to come out to find out what’s going on behind there, I guess..

I’m pretty sure I can see the ‘cut out’ on left edge of lens in your photo. It’s a very slight change in the moulding, but enough to allow a screwdriver blade to be slipped in. Hard to see because the glovebox lining is ‘furry’, but it’s same lens as in my photo where the depression in the edge is clearer.

Did you try the bulb both ways round, they are polarity sensitive

Adrian
We stock the LED bulb for the glove box :D

Also comes as part of our LED interior light upgrade set. Great value!

Thanks Steve but that bulb is so rarely illuminated that it may as well stay incandescent!

Finally got around to having another look at this. Tried the bulb (and a spare) every which way round, without any joy... So in a fit of bravery, I decided that the glovebox had to come out to see what was going on with the wiring.

It turns out that this was the right thing to do, because I found that the plastic connector between the glovebox and the wiring loom was disconnected! As soon as I reconnected it, the bulb lit up. I checked that the push switch was controlling the light correctly, and then set about putting it back together again :) (And in doing so, one of the metal contacts on the light touched the metal bar running across the dash behind the glovebox and blew one of the fuses. Ho hum).

So, tonight I’m a very happy chappy; I’m almost done with my interior lighting now! I need to check the alignment of the glovebox because the gaps either side of the lock/handle are a bit uneven now, but I’m sure that’s perfectly fixable. A result!

That’s a great result Alex!

Always good to disconnect power when working on 928 electrics, for just the reason you discovered! Only takes seconds to disconnect in hatch, and you could install kill switch for ultimate convenience.
