Hi All :)

My S2 started playing up last weekend....

Symptoms were...started badly and missfired particulary when revs raised to around 2000, when it rapidly surged from 1500 to 2000 even though throttle pedal held steady.

Was losing several plugs at once as well...

I was unsure if electrical or fuel and very busy at work so rang PaulA...

On the phone he diagnosed a failing MAF....I did have a recon MAF from John Speake but that was around 7 to 8 years ago...

So asked Paul to send down his recovery truck and pick it up to test....

Tony in the truck arrived at 2.30 pm yesterday and took it away, and it arrived back toay with a recon MAF AT 5PM....:)

All diagnosed and fixed and two 100 mile recovery truck trips and all within 26 hours....

Now thats what I call service :) :) :)

All the best Brett :)

I wonder if there's any Porsche garage in the UK - let alone a 928 specialist - that can manage this level of service.

I bet cost was very reasonable too considering recovery both ways.

Hi Adrian :)

The ridiculous thing is that I even considered taking to the local OPC...LOL ...as in a hurry as several shows coming up....and work is extremely busy so no time to diagnose and fix myself...

The OPC, I seriously doubt they could have fixed it within a week plus they would have charged for a NEW Maf :)

I think they are over a grand now....plus the diagnosis labour and fitting...around £1500 I would guess :(

Cost to me from Paul was £500 all in.... including the 2 recovery truck trips which are usually £100 a time....

But with service and speed like that from Paul , I never consider anyone else these days :)

All the best Brett :)

Hi :)

Wow £1558 exchange which must be plus VAT...nearly £1900 :(

Another thought...as they are exchange, the one you buy MUST be a recon...which I assume Bosch do...unless they get John Speake to do them lol...

All the best Brett :)

Brilliant service, it's great to read that there are specialists out there that don't rip us off. :thumbright:

if you can get the Bosch Number off the MAF I can trace what else they were fitted to

and that price was INC VAT

IIRC the 928 MAF is fitted to the BMW M5 and Audi 20 valve turbo quattro

Kind Regards

Hi Brett,

I've certainly seen them a lot cheaper than the OPC price quoted above, but it was back in December when I was looking and I sent mine off to JDS.

This was one I saw http://2009.bmwfans.info/parts/catalog/13621311950/

Part numbers:

PORSCHE 928 928.606.141.00
Bosch MAF for 85-95 928 is 0 280 214 001 and 0 986 280 124

BMW 13 62 1 311 950
BMW 13 62 1 715 888
VAG 035 133 471

Found that on the net somewhere, I'll check up my history folder to find the source

Kind Regards
Eoin

Hi Eoin :)

The thing that really anoys me about the £1500 OPC price is that its a recon unit.....

I wonder how much they are brand new...maybe from Bosch....

All the best Brett :)

Hi Brett

I got my MAF changed by PA last week as well. It had not failed like yours but the adjustment screw was at its limit and PA could not tune it as he wanted.

The now perfectly adjusted MAF has made a very noticeable difference to the sound of the engine / exhaust note.

Very impressive and recommend procedure.

Ben.

Hi Ben :)

Mine is running perfectly as well....

I do have the Porsche 928 adjustment tool which looks a bit like the longest allen key in the world (around 15 inches long) lol....

With my gas analyser and the tool , I will check it sometime but i would put money on the setting (1%) being perfect anyway.

And mine is running very smoothly, much better and smoother than before , but mine was failing...lol

All the best Brett :)
