Actually not sure if it technically failed or not. He used the word "abandoned". Got a slightly worrying call from the MOT station saying we've had to abandon the MOT as there is fluid pouring out of the transmission. Checked my bank balance then headed down to the MOT station. Turns out the clip at the PS reservoir had decided to start leaking. Think the MOT guy thought it was a leak in the transmission cooling system. Anyway clip tightened and adjusted the hand break that was loose. Hopefully good to go again on Saturday. |

Yep, well caught. Had similar experience last week with my daily, was told that it failed due to leaking rear caliper which was causing bad handbrake and quoted £250 to fix it. I took it home and found no sign of a leak was just part of the mechanism fitted incorrectly. Re fitted the mechanism and adjust handbrake and it sailed through. Garages! |

I'm actually getting to the point where I'm losing trust in every garage I go to but I don't have the necessary skills or space to do things myself. |

MOT abandoned again! Pretty sure the leak is fixed as the fluid doesn't appear to have gone down however there is still fluid dripping. Need to get underneath and clean it I think. |

Hi Mike ![]() Be careful if it is PS fluid...there have been several 928s i have seen over the years where the fluid dropped onto a hot exhaust and burnt out the car ![]() Ps fluid is extremely flammable.... All the best Brett ![]() |

Yeah I'm aware of the potential for fire although it would need to get pretty hot. Flash point is 200C which is about the same as engine oil. I gave it a bit of a clean yesterday and picked up some more engine cleaner so will hit it again today if it stops raining. |

Mike if the leak is pinhole in high pressure pipe then it can spray onto exhaust manifold, which would be hot enough to ignite. You may have leak from this pipe and think it's from another area, just because the fluid gets everywhere! I would just thoroughly clean and dry as much as possible, to make it easier to spot source. The high pressure pipe is most likely failure - supply and return lines at reservoir tend to just weep when hoses are in poor condition |

Actually I take it all back. It isn't fixed. I checked the fluid level after the mot and it seemed fine. Checked it again and it is down below minimum. I think you are right about it being the high pressure hose as I can see some evidence of a leak at the top of the rubber jacket that covers the hose. Not sure I can be bothered doing this myself so will probably take it to Brian Miller, I wanted an oil change and stamp anyway. Suddenly I am also taking the fire hazard a lot more seriously. I am thinking I may cut the PS belt but that'll be a nightmare to get into the garage. |

I assume the comment "RL" in the parts catalogue means right hand drive? So for a 1990 S4 I would be after part no "927 347 447 02". What is the difference in the power steering on the 91 model? |

Hi Mike ![]() I had a similar problem on mine and got the local "Thread and Pipe" services to make me a high pressure hose..a lot cheaper than OPC... All the best Brett ![]() |

I have a local Pirtek but have used them in the past for something and wasn't overly impressed with them. I'll get a quote for the hose and decide. |

When i did mine four years back , i put a peace of metal pipe at the end of the original high pressure metal pipe were it joins the flexible at right angle strait up and had a long flexible pipe made so it now run higher up the inner wing so its not near the left hand manifold . |
