Hi All ![]() Well my Nitrous finally killed something on my 928 S2 ![]() I always knew the auto gearbox was the weak link.... I managed to cook the tranny fluid a few years ago when practicing hard Nitrous launches....so changed the fluid to Full synthetic which can take MUCH higher temperatures.....also added an LSD as I wasnt fond of going sideways at over 100 mph when I activated the nitrous.... This week the Torque converter started playing up, for anyone who has never had it happen, you go to pull away and revs rise BUT you only move away very slowly...once rolling its fairly reasonable..... it feels VERY much like a slipping clutch but only when you try and pull away.... Soooo i thought, ah well that will last me until after xmas....i sort of forgot that my drive is at a 40 degree slope upwards.... got home on day 2 and had to take 3 run ups to my drive....last one JUST made it with a VERY VERY nasty burning smell, lol.... I knew it was dead so rang Paul Anderson and he sent Tony down with his recovery truck to pick it up.....he couldnt have been more helpful...he did say there were two possibilities...torque converter or gearbox pump (that feeds the converter/box) Although he was full with work he will try and change the box (including swapping over my LSD) BY MONDAY WOULD YOU BELIEVE... LOL ![]() ![]() ![]() Amazing service as usual ![]() Will let you know next week what he finds when he pulls the box.... All the best Brett ![]() |

Personally I'd have gone for an upgraded box, with a beefed up torque converter, & a better band material. A bigger cooler would probably help as well. Investigated this quite a few years ago when looking at building a hillclimber, on the Borg Warner they stitch weld the stator vanes as other wise the spot welds break & there wee loads of other tweeks. |

Hi Jim ![]() I thought about a better box but as mine lasted 165,000 miles, even with my Nitrous abuse, and it being my daily driver and needing a quick fix, i decided not.... Already have a MASSIVE cooler that we added at the front....about 5 times the size of the original one.... All the best Brett ![]() |

What epic service from Paul Anderson. I think 928 owners draw the short straw among Porsche owners in terms of sheer choice and geographic convenience of indys familiar with particular models (I think that's one reason why 928 owners are generally more hands-on than other owners). But hearing about the amazing turn round on Brett's gearbox/LSD, I would challenge any other independent to offer this level of expertise/service on another model. New gearbox in a couple of days, transported to your door? No problem! 928 owners may have a tiny choice, but can anyone matchthis experience on another model? I bet price was ridiculously reasonable too. |

Hi Adrian ![]() Yes amazing service from Paul...... it was promised back at 11 am this morning (it was picked up at 12 noon Friday) and it was back 5 minutes early at precisely 10.55 am ![]() I think the problem is that apart from Paul, nobody wants to specialise in 928s only.... I can see it from the garages point of view but I agree its a shame for 928 owners.... having said that, even if there were a dozen 928 specialists, I would ALWAYS use Paul.... ![]() All the best Brett ![]() |

Blimey Brett, bang the drum a bit harder can't you. There are quite a few who work tirelessly to support us Porsche owners of older cars, mine for example got on the train to my house to fix my car within 24 hours of notification, without a quibble , all these guys need a shout out, but lets not over egg the pudding ![]() |

Paul deserves every kudo I give him..... For Porsche owners who own other models its probably hard to understand, but people who fix 928s are like hens teeth....and good fixers are even rarer.... If you own a 911, you can just about get it fixed anywhere.... thats untrue of 928s.... Paul deserves all the praise I and others give him.... All the best Brett ![]() |

Brett, we are all very pleased that you received exemplary service from your service provider and long may it remain so, and I am sure all the 928 owners on here will go flocking to his door, if they haven't already flocked to it, and enjoyed the same level of fantastic service. |
