Any tips for getting the cat section of the exhaust off? I have it completely unbolted but can't get the section that was clamped on to slide off. I was in a bit of a difficult position under the car. I have sprayed the joints down with some penetrating oil. I'm thinking I may go under feet first at the front of the car and try and pull the section towards me. |

Different car but same problem I think. I did my daughter's Golf last week, what should have been a simple job removing the back box actually took me over an hour. I ended up using a grinder on the tube, starting at the bottom of the slot and thinning the tube until it broke through. Even when it was done I had to pry and peel a lot of the outer away using an old sharpened screwdriver before it would let go of the tube it was clamped to. Best of luck with yours, hope it's not going to be too much of a biatch ... G |

It put up a fight but I managed to get it. I tried various positions under the car and gave it another good soak in oil. Was about to give up and then noticed it had moved a few mm. I then managed to wiggle it from side to side and work it loose. |

Heat and corrosion are potent forces freezing exhaust sleeves on! But once bolt on sleeve removed it's only habit holding it on! I had same experience as previous poster on my wife's Scenic back box. Had to use dremel with cutting wheel to lengthen the slots, peel sections back with big screwdriver, then whack with hammer! I think most pro exhaust places just reach for angle grinder straightaway. |
