Hi all, I was under drivers side dash, round by Accelerator pedal and I noticed there is a computer that is not plugged in. Attachment: DriversSidecomputer.jpg The plug in cable tied up - What is this for and what am I missing out of and what will happen if I re-connect it please Also I noticed my ventilation Grill is disconnected and strapped up, hence does this mean I have two computers out of use. cheers Neil |

The plug in cable tied up - What is this for and what am I missing out of and what will happen if I re-connect it please From the location it's probably the tyre pressure monitoring system, if you reconnect it and you're running wheels without the pressure sensors or wheels with faulty sensors then you'll get a warning on the digital dash. Your car probably has the "normal" fix which is to disconnect the plug and bridge a couple of the contacts in it so the warning system thinks it is still connected. neilbennet944 wrote: Also I noticed my ventilation Grill is disconnected and strapped up, hence does this mean I have two computers out of use. Do you mean the shutters? - might not necessarily be the control box in this case, might be the motor driving them or the temperature sensors that are faulty. As long as they're in the open position it's probably OK to leave them for the moment; the theory is that closing them makes the car slightly more aerodynamic but as the earlier cars (and I think the very late ones too) didn't have them they aren't essential. |

Hi bmjb I would like to re-introduce Tyre pressure monitoring, so do you or anyone know how to do this. Obviously I need to make sure I remove and back-out correctly and have the correct components in place. The Ventilation Grill is the Shutters and the arm to them is missing and there is some gaffer tape wrapped around to hold them open. Might be fun to get these to work again, if anyone knows how to cheers Neil |

Obviously I need to make sure I remove and back-out correctly and have the correct components in place. Well, first question is do you already have the correct (original) wheels with the sensors, I think they were only ever fitted to the "manhole cover" and Design 90 wheels - the pressure sensors are screwed into the body of the wheel (where the rubber blocks are), so they can't easily be retro-fitted to other wheels; secondly the sensors are very expensive, so unless you've already got them you're unlikely to want to buy a complete new set. If you do have the wheels with sensors then remove the bridging wires from the plug in the footwell, reattach it to the ECU and see what warning messages if any come up on the dash - that should give you some clue as to the reason why it has been disconnected and what might need fixing. neilbennet944 wrote: The Ventilation Grill is the Shutters and the arm to them is missing and there is some gaffer tape wrapped around to hold them open. There might be a diagnostic procedure in the workshop manual but it's not really part of the car about which I know much. |
