Post subject: | Water-pump from Roger in the US any idea on import taxes? |
Hi there I have had a quote from Roger at 928s Rus in the USA for a water-pump and it works out at £171.68 for the pump and £31.22 for the postage ,Total £202.90 .I am a bit confused on the Usa sales tax and the Uks import Vat etc ,Has anyone had any experience regarding importing car parts from the US? and can anyone tell me what additional costs are likely to be incurred? Many thanks Jezzy |

Ask him to wrap it in Christmas paper and say its a gift, then there is no duty to pay. ![]() |

I buy most of my parts (in value terms anyway) from US often from Roger. You will be asked to pay VAT on declared value, and a handling charge (if delivered via Parcelforce) which is something like £8 or £15 (can't remember exactly). Still usually huge savings over same parts sent here from Germany, rather than via Texas! |

I ordered the porkentensioner and some other after market parts from Roger in the US and was happy with the service. I think I paid about an extra 10% in import tax but can't remember for sure. I bought the water-pump from jmgarage and was happy with their service/price too. |

Many thanks Jezzy Is it worth it? Pump in the UK is £220 + vat, with duty, charges and VAT I would guess you will be paying about the same |

I suppose whether it's worth it is Jezzy's opinion, but he does save £50 this way (there's no import tax, just the VAT and handling charge to pay). But there's another and maybe more important factor. Roger Tyson is ruthless about his parts suppliers. He's spent a lot of time making certain that aftermarket pumps he supplies are not prone to the potentially disastrous problems of pumps supplied by alternative manufacturers or different versions from same manufacturer. You know what you're getting with Roger! |

(which is common on cheap pumps) I would get it from Roger or Paul A... That way you know the pump wont fall apart and wreck your engine... All the best Brett ![]() |

You may also be hit with import duty as well as VAT. We import a lot of parts from all over the world and it seems that the UK customs has quotas, which means that if you buy at the right time of year when the quotas are zeroed you just pay VAT and handling fees... But at the wrong time of year you will also pay import duty, which depending on the part can be 10% to 20%. |

It's based on how busy they are. They will increase the item value limit to clear the backlog. ![]() |
