Post subject:  Sticky Throttle Pedal

Hi folks. Hopefully about to enter the wonderful world of Porsche V8's this week. Lee pointed me here as the place to come for some good info. :alien:

The car i'm hopefully buying, inspection dependent, S4 auto, looks great and seems to be in good fettle. One thing i noticed on the test drive is a somewhat unsmooth throttle pedal.

Is this a common issue or just the way they are?

Issue with the pedal itself or the throttle linkage?

Cheers in advance,
Olie

With mine it was the throttle linkage attached to the intake manifold. I quick spray of WD40 fixed it. :)

You do know I'm going to move in if you get the car.

Smashin, thought itd be that end but good to know for sure.

If you do move in, bring a manual box, think that could be high on the agenda.

It could well be dirty needle bearings at the throttle quadrant on intake.

It could also be sticky cable itself, which can be fixed by disconnecting and spraying lubricant down cable, or replacing it entirely.

Another strong candidate is pulley wheel where cable travels between quadrant on intake and throttle body. The cable moves through 90 degrees at this point.

You need to remove air filter to see the pulley (under the fuel pressure regulator). You can try spraying lubricant on central shaft, but it may need replacing altogether. You need to disconnect FPR for access so be sure to counterhold the fixings when you do this and use a flare spanner to avoid damage.

I keep a spare throttle pulley but ahaven't needed it yet!

Little bit of white grease on the throttle linkage at the engine end and it's smooth as you like now.

Cheers for the tips.

Good tip!

Is that on quadrant on side of intake, or at throttle body itself under intake?

At the linkage pivots. Right side of the bay looking from the front. The bar and the cable ends both benefited from a little grease.
