Post subject:  Rotten fuel line near tank please help!

Hi all

I have done a bit of research and so far came up with ziltch! I had a look around the rear wheel arch near the fuel tank and found that one of the metal pipes coming from around the rear of the fuel tank has rusted through in several places ,The pipe that comes out of the tank about half way up towards the front of the car is ok .The car has been started recently so fuel is getting through and the bad pipe looks like its been shot for ages,

My questions are..

What is the bad pipe for ,Is it a vacuum pipe or something?
How will its current state affect the car ?
and can I replace it with a rubber or copper pipe?

Many thanks Jezzy

Hi,

Just to help this thread get underway, it sounds like it could be a fuel tank breather pipe. I'm guessing it is not leaking fuel from there? anyway, if it is, you could possibly cut it off and replace it with a rubber pipe.

Hi there ,Thanks for the reply, I have done a bit more research and I think it may possibly be the fuel return pipe ,It looks like it has been shot for years and when I started the car recently I did not smell any petrol leaking out so its a bit of a mystery to me

Thanks Jezzy
