Hi there

I don't know if this has been done before but I just have to share my discovery with you all!

I decided that my Intake tubes had seen better days and were a bit dented on the corrugated sections and also had a few splits in them so I did the following,,

1/Remove tubes and cleaned off grease and dirt with car paint thinners

2/Used black electrical tape to repair splits in tubes ( wound round 2-3 times)

3/Put hand inside tube and heat dents in corrugated sections with hair dryer ,Push dents out with fingers and while hot compress tubes and manipulate back into shape ,Keep compressed for a few seconds until tubes hold shape ,came back like new!!!

4/ Used hair dryer to heat electrical tape repairs and when hot compressed tubes ,Tape acted a bit like shrink wrap and fell deeper into the grooves

5/Coated the whole lot in Cherry blossom liquid shoe polish as a colour restorer

I don't know how long the tape repairs will last but for now they look really tidy. The dents came out really easily like they had never been there and overall it has vastly improved the look of the tubes

Let me know if you try this and what you think Jezzy

You made a big mistake in step 5.

Should have used Kiwi!

Sorry Jezzy couldn't resist. I'm an advertising
man and Kiwi is a valued client!

Seriously thanks for the info - the hair drier trick is a cracker which I've never seen in years of haunting 928 forums and meets

Hi Jezza

re: 2/Used black electrical tape to repair splits in tubes ( wound round 2-3 times)

Electrical insulation tape has a very low resistance to heat. (turns into a sticky mess) And the engine bay gets very hot.

Just a thought.

Ben.

Hi Ben ,Yes I was wondering about that, It did act a bit like shrink wrap when I heated it with the hair dryer ,Still better than splits for now ! jezzy
