I have reached the unfortunate decision that I'm going to sell my 1991 S4 auto 928. There are few reasons, all of them are practical, but none of them mattered to me until recently. I have kindly been reminded why I sold the 944 after it sat for months and caused me no end of grief after it wouldn't start. I do not have time to drive the car and keep it running as sweet as it deserves to be. After the car let me down for the first time, it wouldn't start outside the house due to a connector in the wiring harness, I have realised it is because it has not been getting any attention. I wish I had a garage to store it in for a few years. ![]() So, following on from Lightnings thread about how it is a good time to buy, how much is a mechanically sorted '91 S4 worth? It does need a wing, fuel filler lid and the front and rear PU painted. At 191,000 miles, it's never going to be worth top money. Do I need to hide all the rope in the shed before advertising it? ![]() |

A sad day Lee, I was in the same position with my S2 Cab after I bought the 4S. Better to let them go, than just sit out in the open air. ![]() Good luck with the sale. |

Lee a very difficult decision to have to make - I hope you get a quick sale. |

Hi Lee, What a shame - you are such a great enthusiast for the cars. I checked eBay completed auctions which is some guide to the market. Several digidash S4s sold in past month so around your model year. They fetched from 3000 to just over 4000. I'm not sure values are rising. The collapse in 996 and Boxster prices exerts downward pressure (I know what I'd rather have, but market does not agree with me!), and the economic slump means it is generally buyers' market for most classics. Good luck with sale and suggest selling via 928.org.uk as well as here |

Thanks guys, I am very sad about it all. I love the car and always wanted one, thankfully I had a good one. I've enjoyed every minute of her, including working on her, but with the time needed to keep things working? Time is just a luxury I don't have at the moment. It's just a pity I can't store her. The one tiny wee consolation is the 966. |

I know how you feel, I was the same when I sold my 944S, at least it went to a good home and the new owner has invited me around a couple of times to show me how how she is, hope you manage to sell yours to a real enthusiast |

I'm mechanically biased, so the car mainly requires cosmetics. However, she broke down again today. Mr JDS Porsche is getting the LH ECU in the post as it decided today was a good day to go on holiday. ![]() |

Too true about the 3p dirty hands. Cost me about £65 yesterday to fill half a 928 tank! Prices of 928s (and other big engined V8s) are very tied to fuel prices. It's daft really as they are one of the least important costs of running a 928 (at least not as a daiky driver). Also they are probably more economical than a 911 of same vintage but that is not perception. |

Thanks Lindsay that's just over 18mpg. 5.0L S4 928 Auto averages in low 20s and I get mid 20s on m-way run. The LH Jetronic is pretty sophisticated by standards of the day and stands up well even now. Air cooling brings a fair mpg penalty. Neither of us chose our cars for economy but it is interesting how perceptions of economy differ from reality! |
