I have a question regarding adjusting the height of the brake pedal on an S4 auto. Checked on rennlist hints and tips website and it states that it can be adjusted fore and aft by undoing the locknut on the rear of the pedal and rotating the aluminum block in/out as desired (then making the necessary adjustment to the stop light switch after) easy enough at first glance.
I then checked the workshop manual and this is where my confusion stems from - it states;

"Adjust length of brake pressure rod by turning adapter or pressure rod. Length a must be 158 + 2 mm measured from the bearing face of the brake booster on the body to the center of the adapter pivot pin"

So simple question - can the brake pedal be adjusted outside of these tolerances and still operate normally? Reason being my pedal is too high - and I would like it further forward. I can confirm that my pedal is currently set as per the workshop manual.

any help much appreciated

there is further comment on this procedure here but doesn't answer my question.....
