Good morning,
i was wondering if anyone has converted their Pride n Joy to manual?

If so was it easy to do?

Ive done it before on a Ford Capri years ago and it took about a day and a half

Thanks for looking

Mark

my car is a 1986 S4 auto

I believe a few people have had their 928s converted from auto to manual. Paul Anderson is probably the person to talk to, or post on the 928uk list to see if there's anyone there who's had it done.

Compared to a Capri the amount of work is probably similar but the difference is that with 928s there's a far smaller pool of manual cars to provide the required parts.

Unless you already know of an accident-damaged donor car, or your auto is particularly special to you, you might just as well sell your auto and buy a manual; the price differential isn't that large any more and if you find a manual car in good condition it would be a shame (IMHO) to break it just to get the parts to do the conversion.

Keep it as an original "Auto" there are GT's around if you are prepared to wait....... an S4 converted to a manual may not be that easy to re-sell .... keep the 928's standard as made.

I wouldn't if I were you. If you want to get in and about the mechanics of the car, I would phone Simon Watson. He has enough parts he could sell you to custom build yourself a 928 of your choice. My next one will be an early S manual. :D

Id agree with you Andy :occasion5: and the cost to convert would get you to a GT or manual S4

By pure coincidence, he phoned me earlier today. The silver car he has on the road is an S2 manual. Lucky sod bought it as the water pump had gone, so he put a spare one he had on it and is using it??????? If he fell in the Clyde, he'd come out with a salmon in his pocket. :D

His dream car is and early S with no sunroof, manual and ABS. Only problem is Porsche never made one, so he's building one.

Great guy. :D

Here you go, an '89 GT for £6000

http://www.928.org.uk/for-sale/606-for-sale-porsche-928-gt-1989-slate-grey.html

You can either keep it as is or use the money from selling your auto to change the interior back to "normal" or get the stone chips treated or get the heating fixed or...

Not my car, but just an example of how cheap a GT can be. If you'd been on the ball there was a GTS advertised on the same site for the same price  (but that was an auto); prices still seem to be falling for the later cars!
