Does anyone have pictures of the washer pumps on an S4? Mine have stopped working and I'm trying to find the fault. I put the working pump off my 944 on and still no washers. There is no 12 v feed to the pump, however I've checked the relay ( in Mike Dowie's 928 ) and it's ok. I now think I put the pump on the head light washers by mistake as there are 3 pumps ( and why there was no feed when I pulled the stalk towards me ).

1 For the head lights.
2 For the windscreen.
3 For the intensive windscreen wash ( concentrate only ).

My other 2 pumps are ok, I just need to know exactly where the pump is located for the windscreen washers. The one I replaced is under the driver wheel, liner off and the first pump you see. Before I dismantle everything again tomorrow, have I replaced the headlight washer pump, that was ok to start with?

Hi LEE :)

Lol , I did the same when mine stopped working...wheel off and all the other stuff....

It aint down there by the way :)

Ok..do this... follow the pipe back from the washer jets and if its the same as my S2 you will find the main washer pump clipped to the inner wing just below and forward of the brake fluid resevoir... about six inches down from bonnet level...

All the best Brett :)

It's dark now, but I'll be right out in the morning. My WSM has the sections missing.

Hi Lee,

Brett is correct as ever about the pump position for an S2.

But for S4s the screen pump position (not intensive) was moved.

If you remove RHS wheel liner and look back you'll see the washer fluid reservoir mounted in the wing. The screen pump is inside a rubber mounting in the aperture in middle of reservoir (not actually inside it!). The headlamp washer pump is mounted on the base of the reservoir.

If you're in there then you could pull out the reservoir and clean up any rust around the metal insert in the neck. Rust particles can eventually clog pumps and valves in the system.

Thanks Adrian, looks like I replaced the wrong pump. I have woke up this morning unable to move, done my back in. Looks like I'll be doing this next weekend now. I'll let you know and take a couple of pictures to help any other idiots like me.

Hi Lee,

Yes working on a 928 can be uncomfortable given the supplest of backbones, so best to give yours some rest and tackle later.

It does sound like you replaced the intensive washer pump. I presume that's located in the intensive reservoir under the plastic cover at base of screen?
